Looking for a 1466

I am probably grasping at straws here, but I am going to try and see if I can find my grandfather’s 1466. The tractor was sold new at Rhomberg Implement in Elkader, Iowa. He bought the tractor used when it was just a few years old in the mid 70’s from Rhomberg’s and owned it until 1992 when it was traded to another local Case IH Dealer, Scherrman Implement in Dyersville, Iowa, on a 5288. We know the tractor was sold to someone near Glen Haven, Wisconsin, but have no new news of its whereabouts in the 33 years since. I do know the TA was out when the tractor was traded in. Unfortunately, I do not have the serial number, but figured this would be about the best place to ask. I do have a few pictures to help, and any help is appreciated. TIA

Indeed I am. If there was a 1466 in this area with what appears to be 23.1-34 rubber, I would think I would recognize it. I’ll do a little asking around to see if anyone knows anything, or remembers back in the day seeing such a tractor.

Are they 23.1x34 or 20.8x38?   It looks too small for one and too big for the other in the picture to me (I know that helps a lot) 🙂

The side view tells me they are 34 or 32 inch hubs, which is good because that is the only way to easily identify the tractor. Which I believe I have done!

the good news is I talked to a local mechanic who said that a certain neighbor owned one like that. The bad news is that neighbor is no longer farming, and no longer a neighbor…. I’m still trying to find when it might have been sold, and whether privately or by auction. I will privately message the original poster with a couple more details that I don’t think are appropriate to post for all.

I think you are dead on with the rubber size.  It narrows it down with the riveted lugs on the rims.

I wonder in first picture if they had 20.8 34 rims and tires and later picture had 23.1 34

I wouldn’t want my information being given out on a public forum without permission, especially if I wasn’t involved with that public forum. So it’s a no brainer to keep that more private.

If that tractor was on 18.4 or 20.8 rubber, the odds of recognizing it would have gone down substantially, or at minimum taken me longer to talk to people about who bought a tractor from dyersville around that time. That’s a very unique feature that I only know of a few around on any tractor, much less a 1466 in my neighborhood.

You could be correct.  It's hard to tell with the slope of the road,  but it appears that the front sets up.

I've got a 1206 on 23.1x34 and 11x16 on the front, and it sets level.

In the side pic I do see the lugs.  Those are most likely 23.1x34 then.  

That's a pretty unusual tire on a 1466.  

I expect the 34" wheel centers are hard to find in that axle size.

I don’t believe the centers or rims were ever changed, but I will try to find some more pictures to get a better view of it in later years. Thanks for the help BrewCrew, and thanks for the enthusiasm everyone!

Used to have a white cab 1466 with those same kind of wheels with 23.1 X 34's i sold it on ebay and it went to South Padre Island TX and they were fairly scarce wheels and rim setups because while i had it listed for sale i had 2 guys email me wanting to buy just the rims wheels and tires. I never answered them back.

I, also, used to have a white cab 1466 with loaded 23.1 X 34's.  It also had 18.4 X 38 duals.  Don't remember what size the fronts were.  But the duals and main rears were real close to the same height - if not the same.  All 4 tires only had about 50% tread.  Even with that, traction was not a problem.  That was one sweet sounding/running tractor.  A/C didn't work, so the doors had been removed before I got it.  It developed some other issues so I sold it and got something with a good functioning A/C.

I guess different brands of tires may vary.  But on a Firestone 23.1x34 and a Firestone 18.4x38, there is a lot of difference, as seen in the picture.

23s on my 1206 and 18s on amy 1086. 

The 23s come closer to 18.4x42 I have on another tractor.

The first picture looks like they had 2 sets of rims and tires those definitely look like 20.8 34. Pic of it going on truck looks to be 23.1 34. 
23.1 30 was a size jd used on 4020s but they were on 806s up here to. 23.1 34 and 24.5 32 were on the bigger tractors up here. We hated anything with big tires here. Just the cost of them and feeling like you were on a boat all day. We had a 1066 that got switched to 18.4 34 and duals.

I don't remember the brand of tires which were on mine-probably were not the same.  In thinking about it, the rim widths may have been other than the normal width, which may have altered the height some.

I have a 1066 with 18.4 x34's.I am curious why did you switch to them to 18.4 34's instead of 18 38s or 20s?.I have one 10 with 18 38s and another with 20s.I was always going to switch the one with 34s to 38s but never got around to it.But the one reason I don't is because of the hills we have.Its real stable because it sits so low,with duals it really would just go out along the sidehills.

Typo 18.4 38. Firestone field and road with step up lugs. A friend of Dads used to have a red cab 1066 with 18.4 34 tires. This was way back in time so I would bet they were factory..

A couple mile from me there was a 1066 back in the 80s on 18.4x34. Come time for new tires he put 20.8x34 on the same rims. Not uncommon around here to replace 18.4 with 20.8 on the same rims in 34 & 38 inch tires. I have a 4020 i did it to

My dad's '73 1066 has 34" centers on it. Sounds like it's way more common than I thought. I always figured somewhere along the lines they got swapped out for some reason since it was 15 years old when bought

18.4-34 on a clamp hub gave the clamp studs a chance at surviving.  Step up to 18.4-38 and it got pretty easy to snap those clamp studs, especially with clamp on duals.
