High powered air rifle...? Gun guys

Recommended Posts

I know there's knowledgeable gun guys on here.  Anybody have a high power air rifle ? Suggestions? We have to many pigeons and black birds.  And too many neighbors and or buildings close,to use 22 etc. Wanna sniper em off silo. I have one older spring pellet gun ,that never would hit anything.  Even a friend who's a marksman tried. I see you can spend big money, like to be middle of the road. And would like to find someone who knows something about em. Thanks for any help in advance

I had nuisance birds to deal with and I ended up buying a Stoeger S4000-E. I haven't played with it much and ended up using my 12 gauge to speed things up🤠

I did take down 4 or 5 with the pellet rifle but I haven't had time to sight it in as good as I think it should be

Both SILs bought them as well and like them. They use them more than I have

I am curious if anyone else has the same one as I bought

I have a Crossman, break action single shot. I forget the muzzle velocity, but it's the fastest one I could find at the time. It's a killer. It'll kill a raccoon with a single shot.

Unisex pellet guns?!  What will they think of next!

For pigeons and gophers my advice would be to get something in the 750+ fps range, it really helps range and makes it more humane.

There are .177 cal and .22 cal.  For birds and small varmints 177 is fine.

I shot a friend of mine's .45 caliber air rifle. He fills it with a tank. It has a two shot clip. You have to wear ear plugs.

...down under we just dig them with a fork or similar tool ......(Potatoes, that is )

One of my brothers made a potato shooter when he was in high school. PVC pipe, grill igniter and starting fluid. He's lucky it never blew up scattering him with plastic shrapnel.

I have a Gamo Break barrel riffle thats about 15 years old. shoots 1200fps or so the advertising states and I would believe it. Works great. accurate and will take out coons and other small critters. Nice and quiet as well.

Sorry Mike, I forget you live a sheltered life down under.

Potato guns don't shoot at potatoes. They use potatoes as the projectile! kinda like a small muzzle loading cannon. We used hairspray for the propellant just because it was strange.

It was during my wild time between wives and It was alot of fun!!!

Probably too much fun. I bet it's illegal in some repressed societies...

Besides I grow rice and potatoes are a major competitor. My wife's car has a bumper sticker that says 'Eat Rice, Potatoes make your but big!'

She resembles that statement...

I'm all for shootin' but if you are in a situation where you can't

Set out a pan of whiskey soaked corn or other grain.

You can then walk around and pick them up when they are too drunk to fly.

But then you got a drunk pigeon on yer hands...............................😂

Now Ace I once heard an alternative idea on that -

Old panel beater to apprentice removing a dent from a mudguard (fender) -

"Careful, boy! Working metal is just like working women - bang too hard and long and it spreads"
