Tall oil filter for 300/400 series engines

What's the CIH number for the tall oil filters for the 300/400 IH engines?

360, 414, 436, 466

766-5488

I've been using Napa oil filter but they are getting too high. I can buy them cheaper at the CIH dealership...

I've been using 1788 Napa

Thanks

Is there a “short” CIH number then? Because I buy two boxes a year and I’m fairly sure that’s not the number I’ve ever been given.   I feel like it’s a 75 or 55  the end?  CIH were within $2-3 on most filters compared to napa last year, sale price to sale price

Use LF3316 here, has standpipe built in for anti-drain back. See lots of times where tractors will have a truck filter (no standpipe) on them. Truck filter base has filters hang down in behind frame rail.

Here's a pic on my 886.

I prefer the longer ones for more capacity.

Years ago I got some from a dealer and they were short...

These are 7.5 inches long.

A184775 is the correct filter. I sold 1200-1400 of them a year. There was at one time a taller filter, but it was to close to the exhaust manifold and as was long NLA from CIH as far as I know. The real short filter was a 3136046r93. That was the short version of the 398080R2 which were both for German diesels. The 398080R2 was the same height as the A184775, but had no anti drain back valve. Do not use for 300/400 engines! Now these numbers may have changed with CNH. I've been out of the dealership since 2008.

I checked the specifications on the wix website (Napa gold are wix filters l) and it shows it has an anti drain back valve.

I've run these filters for decades but the local Napa is getting too high on filters. I can buy them cheaper at the CIH dealership!

The short oil filter for a 300/400 series engine was 677709C91.  No longer offered from CaseIH, it was a 4" tall filter, for tractors with an 85 cotton harvester mounted on it.

Looking up the A184775 on the wix website it's about an inch shorter than the 1789.

I also have some truck filters that are the same base but even bigger. They hit the exhaust manifold on tractors. Seems like I use them on loadstars with SV engines.

@acem check carquest, 85784, cash price at my store for just a walk-in is $24.29, they are Baldwins with carquest label and they have the antidrainback! One of my farm accounts can get them for 10.69, he gets a good discount because of the price plan he is on and the volume he buys.

Would those be the NAPA Gold 1789?

7”, this is the number the dealer has been giving me for the last two years anyway, maybe three. I don’t remember when it changed.   A184775 I believe is what they use to be. Maybe they are again, I did not buy any this spring. 439F5FED-18E9-4088-92F0-EF476F38B6FD.thumb.jpeg.d8da299339258112867f56822cc0fff1.jpeg19CC939F-2BCB-4E9A-B266-1EF732429FC2.thumb.jpeg.06351abfe2bed2df2e59d5527801e30e.jpeg

I knew I’d been running that number above for a long time, but my current stock in the shelf only goes back two years. I do remember the 775 though.  I think the filter numbers on our ‘08 maxxum have changed atleast 5x since 08.  I hate that.

Side note,  Ballistic testing shows CNH filters to be more dense than red baldwins.

Mine probably looks a little longer since it's a D360. I expect the block is a little shorter.

I happened to have both blocks tore apart in my shop last week.  The 360 block is the same height and width as a 414 block but is basically 4” shorter.  I always wondered.

Yes.

I like them but they are charging me around $30 each the last time I bought them...

I guess filters are their get rich quick scheme???

My cases have 12. They have a label on  them.  I’ve never seen a 6 pack.
I remember them being $10 last year, or the year before. Napa was $9.xx at the time.

Just realized I took a picture of the wrong filter on my drain barrel  I thought I was taking a picture of an older 775.
