These low centered machines with specialized fenders used the Farmall H engine.  Found in orchards, nut and vegetable farms.  Unusual in row crop country, these machines draw attention at any antique event.

Let's see your examples!

W4 standard is on my wish list. Remember watching one in a tractor pull bout 55 years ago and can still see that front end come up in the air bout 3-4 feet while pulling the sled. As a young kid I was sure impressed.

My 1947 O4 and OS4 experimentals. 50 of each model were built by IH with live hyd, rear hyd hitch and vertical shaft distributors. 2 O4's are known and 7 OS4's are known. Im the lucky one with the set. Both tractors came out of california and are running originals

Almost sounds like it was a package option. Do you have the details on that setup for the O's?

those things were what made it an experimental. they just put everything they were working on at the time and put it on those machines. the distributor kinda goes along with live hyd due tot he fact that there pumps were flat backs and didnt have provisions to drive a horizontal shaft mag or dist.

My January 1947 W4 (original paint) and a restored O4 (from the Alan Dippie collection at Wanaka). The W4 had just tow started the O4 (flat battery and no crank handle, not an issue with the W4 as it has never had any electrics) at the Edendale Vintage Clubs Crank Up weekend 2023.

MT Matt, love those pictures you post, such gorgeous country!

Thanks guys, just what it looks like out here. Guess a person gets used to it but every once in awhile it makes you stop and look around.  I’ve seen enough of the States to know that I wouldn’t live anywhere else!

I only have pics of our super W4 and OS4 and a plain W4. Hillman should hopefully recognize at least 1 of these. Will try to get some pics of the rest

the rusty one came from me?

I sold your Grandpa a SW4 that I saved from a wrecking yard. the wrecker already sold the tires and rims so thats how your Grandpa bought it from me. at the time I had a light little loader and it was pouring rain on a November's night( 1996) when he came to get it solo. it took some time getting it loaded Funny how things like that stick in your mind. We both got soaked but I could change my clothes. We fed him supper and off he went cold and wet for that long drive home. Next thing I get picks of him with it at the Mackinaw Bridge👍

I hope he is well Chase. he is a good man

Picked this one up about a month ago.   It’s stuck from sitting in shed.  Hope to start working on it soon.

i hope you know thats a Super w4. way less produced. like 3500 off the top of my head vs around 30,000 w4's in rough numbers. my w4 is in red power magazine, number 34113 as the highest. hope u keep it original. looks the best that way and worth more.

Yep, knew it was a super!  I’ve seen 2527 for number of supers built.
