Should it have taillights?

My 986 is a 1977 model and on the rear of the fenders has a work light and then a black blank. I’ve noticed on other 86 series that there is a red light where I have the black blank, should this be a taillight? I would like to add it if that’s what is supposed to be there and there is a wire available to power it.

Original equip on that year is a round  red reflector.  The worklight originally had the red backing on worklight and bulb  that would turn on for roading.

You could mount a tail light and use wire from original red tail bulb to power it.

I personally believe that lights, mirror, steps should never be kept to "original" - but should always be upgraded for " better safety".    Add lights, switch to LED, and add big mirrors.   Something added to allow safer operation should never be considered "unoriginal" - unless this is a 100 hour museum piece.

Beat me to it.

Just took apart an early 986. AC is different,  wiring and lights.

Will have all the upgrades when finished.  Need to have work lights, tail lights and flood lights on top of the fenders.

Ours is an early '76. I always thought it was due to it being a factory Rops/canopy tractor? Did not know about the '78 change.
