billonthefarm
It’s that time of the year again. My harvest day is coming up and you are all invited. I also got underway with harvest Thursday. I do enjoy fall. Nice weather. I enjoy the hectic and sometimes chaos of harvest. It’s just fun to be busy and accomplish so much!

For how dry my area was, the beans never stopped growing, the corn never uncurled, but somehow we are looking at potentially 40 bpa beans or better, and 150 bpa corn or better. The way we looked in July, I would have said 10 bpa beans, and 50 bpa corn. The dirt in between the rows, is still soft and mellow like the field cultivator just went through it yesterday, makes me wonder how tough that will make bean harvest? Normally the rain pounds the ground firm and has a layer of crust, but no rain, still have fluffy dirt.

lorenzo
Billonthefarm, what is the moisture on that corn? Were still at 19 and even 21% here especially where the stalks are still green like that.
jass1660
Best yield/lowest loss is in the 19-21% range.

DT Fan
I think I'm going to try it in the morning. Checked some fields today, plenty dry, like 16-17% Get some of this corn off before the beans are ready to go. Looking forward to taking to town with the 856!

I noticed this last year having a slightly less than bumper crop whenever we should of had a half crop at best.
DT Fan
Took the 1460 to my smallest field today, 2-2&1/2 acres. Got that knocked out, machine seems to be working good. First moister test was 18.1, took another after I got done, 16.6. We'll see how close my tester is when I get this stuff to the elevator tomorrow. Have another small field across the creek, try to get it done tomorrow. May take Friday off and work on the other half of the farm. The beans look like they may be closer than I thought.

SDman
So you guys in the Corn belt have all the dry corn. These guys are combining 30-35% moisture corn for a large cattle feedlot nearby. They blend some of it in with their silage when they put it in the pile. Also have a couple pictures of the MotherBin setup they use as well. 10 1

Never seen a mother bin in use around here. But I assume they are just parked at the end of the field so that the combines/cart never have to wait for a semi?
