stronger800 Posted September 23 Share Posted September 23 4-5” wire knotted brush on a grinder. Safety glasses and a mask. They clean up fast. Cast doesn’t rust much. One coat of rattle can rustoleum red oxide primer and one coat of red, easy peasy. Local metal shop does custom sandblasting and I’m sure they would do weights pretty cheap, other than I would not want to ask them to handle them. stronger800 Posted September 23 Share Posted September 23 Hang them around the top of a metal barrel with the top cut out of it like guys on here have shown me to do. If you set up a whole bunch of them like that, I would buy the absolute cheapest harbor freight spraygun and a quart of red paint and it would still be a lot cheaper than buying rattle cans which are about $22 apiece now, or more. I have some decent quality spray guns, picked up a $9 HF gun to shoot primer inside of some wheels. I was planning to just throw it away rather than use $5 worth of reducer to clean it. stronger800 Posted September 23 Share Posted September 23 Rust oleum “regal red” is also about seven dollars a spray can at Walmart, depending on how fussy you are, it matches pretty darn good. IH Forever Posted September 23 Share Posted September 23 I painted 10 70lbers by cleaning them up with a flap brush on my angle grinder. Then laid them on cardboard on the shop floor and rattle canned with Rustoleum primer and CIH 2150. Turned out very well. I do like the barrel idea though. oleman Posted September 23 Share Posted September 23 Remove the weights and strip them, dip them in a vat of decent polyurethane paint using the engine hoist, then hang them on a beam to dry. R190 Posted September 25 Share Posted September 25 I had a customer paint a 560 chassis with an 1 1/2 wide brush and it was great , nobody was the wiser, tin work got sprayed. The tractor ended up on the back cover of the RED POWER magazine. At the price of a rattle can verses a quart of 2150 I would brush them . Especially since they are going to be knocked a lot.
