Could Have Been a Disaster

Recommended Posts

A customer called me this morning, his 400 Farmall feed wagon tractor wouldn't start. Said there was smoke coming from up by gas tank when he tried to turn the engine over. I hit the switch and the supports that hold the fuel tank down would smoke while trying to crank. The gas line had came loose and was resting on the strap to the field coils on the starter! The drive was stuck in the flywheel so loosened the mounting bolts and it snapped out. Tightened it up and worked fine. No holes in gas line or anything so got lucky this time.

What I like best about being in the fixin business for over 60 years is you never know what the next project will bring!

Always, stay safe because you will have enough issues without creating your own!

Many years ago I bought an H for the wide front under it.  I was just going to pull it home, but the previous owner talked me in to getting it running and drive it home.  Regulator must have stuck on the way home, caught the wiring on fire under the gas tank a quarter mile down the road.  That was no fun at all, but at least it didnt blow up....  We pulled it home from there, dad rewired it, still have the tractor.
