Recommended Posts

Probably 1/8 inch pipe thread, very common grease zerk thread.

Ian is saying you don't need one there.   They will all be threaded, originally it would be pipe thread mostly if not all 1/8 pipe thread. If they have come loose or threads damaged, they may have larger threads.

The manual states that these need to be greased unless I misreading or missing something? See picture E.

Still going without 71 years later

Did you by any chance try with a piece of wire to see if they have been drilled for grease channels?

Why we never got excited about having no grease nipples there.

And the button head nipples were on the track rollers and idlers.  Still available if you have the grease pump

I haven't yet. I will give it a shot though. I will be replacing a handful of zerk fittings and I will give this a shot

The threads are 1/8 inch pipe threads, the early TD6 did not have a lube fitting there, the later TD6's do, the parts catalog shows after serial number TBK 31068 (1952 model) they had the zerk fitting, yours is an earlier tractor, a previous owner many have upgraded to the newer steering clutch release fork at some time. That happens a lot when the tractor has been through different owners, lots of parts get changed with no record. Item 1 is your zerk fitting.

The TD6 I am working on right now was not drilled and tapped for grease, the upped shafts  and bushing retainers were destroyed by rust allowing water into the housing and destroyed all the steels in the steering clutches. I built up the shafts with stainless, drilled and tapped the shaft when it was in the lathe and made new upper bushing retainers which were cut for a lip seal instead of the felt washer. Should be good for another 70 or 80 years, I will let you all know then how it worked out.🙂
