There's authenticated photos from game camera’s all around my area. Perhaps the increased lion population is a result of a readily and plentiful source of food. Emma and i walk a two mile area along a heavily wooded river on a daily basis. Armed of course. In that area alone we have found the remains of three white tail deer. No signs of arrows from hunting so we can only speculate as to the cause of death. 3 Quote

cobfly Posted January 8 Posted January 8 The studies I have read, say an adult lion will eat about 40 deer a year, if available. Utah studies the health of mule deer by amount of lions in the region. No prey, no predators, or, no predators, no prey. Cheaper than flying choppers and counting deer in winter. More accurate also. 3 Quote

Less than 15 years ago there were NO established lions in the area. 10 years ago, before Ernie got the lion season killed, the season lasted less than a week before the 2 females were killed. Now this year it took 6 days. We all knew there were big cats on the river, and I took Frank out to a covered deer to show him. The official word was a stray male, even though he told me that he knew better. 3 Quote

I'll get a few displaced young ones, or displaced old ones wander through my place, when they can't compete, looking for easy vittles, down on farm ground. Generally speaking, they leave horses and cattle alone, but like anything, depends on how hungry they are. They do like a tasty Californian, from what I read. 1 6 Quote

Fwiw Locally my hunter buddies wont go anywhere in woods now without pistol. Too many Cougars and they are sneaky. But? They admit is you're out for a walk and get jumped you wont have time to shoot most likely. Cyclist was eaten by Seattle last year. State was all confused why it was so low off hills. Well you banned dog hunting them and now they have blew up population as population thinks they need more and more nature trails in their territory. To be more earthy 2 Quote
