RPG
A friend of mine's dad was working on a 706, and removed the head. Soon after he passed away. We don't know why he pulled the head, nor where it is. My friend wants to get it running, and I found a non running 560 nearby. Both are D282 diesels. My supplier lists a rebuild kit that fits both, and others that only fit one or the other. We'll have to check serial numbers. My question is, do all D282 heads swap out?
louie figone
Yes they are interchangeable, The D236, D282 and D301 use the same head, the early heads have smaller valves, IN 1.647-1.657, EX 1.295-1.305 for the early heads, IN 1.674-1.684, EX 1.370-1.380 for the late heads. Be sure you have the heads checked for cracks, they are notorious for cracking the heads, the cracks are repairable, leave the engine idle for a minimum of 3 minutes at shutdown.
RPG
Thanks! If he does buy the 560, step 1 will be getting head checked. Man says engine is stuck. It's priced so he could get his money back scrapping it if he had to.
