Found this crawler sitting. Been sitting alittle over a year. He said they put all new fuel lines on and went to start it and for got to turn the fuel return line on and now it leaks fuel into crankcase. Any ideas what's wrong . Is it a easy fix. WHat's its worth? Are they any good tell me the bad and good. Thanks

Early JD construction equipment and forestry equipment had a poor reputation round here. Not sure why. Cat IH and Allis were well liked.

Now JD is well liked in construction and forestry. I'm not sure when the change occurred but I'm guessing the 80s.

I don't run yellow equipment so I'm just repeating what I've been told.

Someone like @mike newman might have first hand knowledge.

will have to look at my 20 some day....

certainly an off weekend toy ,other than  the dread unit engine, dont see why the RM pump can be sealed.

save 3-4 models like anything <'00 they are NLA for  parts, but like cat, 2x -4x more is findable than any IH

This kinda goes into my thread I started awhile ago about collecting POS machinery.  They were generally poor but if you can get this one running and get it dirt cheap why not go for it??  If this crawler has made it to the year 2023 then it can't be in too bad of shape.  You could always pass it off to a collector later on.

They are prone to transmission housing cracking and clutch issues. Mother Deere turned her back on them years ago and they aren’t well supported in the aftermarket. Sounds like an injector pump rebuild before you can start to figure out what else is wrong.

....Reckon   you guessed right era re the resurgence of the JD Brand in construction.....Those first 750 John Deere Crawlers were nothing  but the best ..unbelievable hours from trans  and  final drives etc

When I did the welding time at Caterpillar  , NZ ..that big franchise handled the early , two cylinder line of JD crawlers.....we built all the attachments for them. .blades etc , ;...and some had 'four in one'' loaders built on them.....Despite their diminutive size , they were great little tractors......however when the yellow  1010 arrived it really looked the goods but it was not a happy machine...They had issues from the get  go....I do not recall what sort of diesel engine it had...but after awhile , another variant came out with "John Deere-Lanz ''  proudly displayed on the bonnet ...(or ''hood'' if it was in Arkansas....)....again I don't recall the engine other than it could have been a three cylinder Perkins...which were used in a variety of small British wheel tractors at the time...Anyway ...those yellow machines seem to disappear fairly early on.  .I haven't seen one in years.......

This must have 1962 /63 perhaps ....a day or two gone anyway....   If @Wes806   could buy it for next to nothing....this after finding out if it actually can have some life breathed into it...............maybe.......but it is worth only scrap otherwise...sadly ...

As always...   just my opinion...

Thanks guys for all the information. I think I'll pass on it unless the guy gets ahold of me and offer's it to dirt cheap. Dad had a T340 years ago and I really like it for doing small jobs.

That would be nice.

My grandpa had a 1010 gas dozer for years.  It had steering clutch issues on 1 side that was never able to get fixed.  He sold it and the guy completely rebuilt the final and steering on that side.  Used it sparingly for 10-12 years, then rebuilt the same final and steering side again.  I don't remember much about the dozer.  I liked playing on it, but I don't remember it moving much.  Grandpa put maybe 40 hours a year on it, the guy that bought it, probably about the same.  Mostly used for logging in the winter clearing roads and pulling a drey skidder.

If you get it cheap enough, it would be ok for the occasional light job, just don't expect to push much with it.  They didn't have much power.  They did have ok hydraulics for the time.

The 350/450 dozers made during the 1970's were alright.  The 300/400/500/600 industrial tractors and hoes were considered good.  There were quite a number of JD log skidders around during the 1970's.  There were a few stand alone JD industrial dealers around back then and only Ford had more.  Only one IH dealer sold some backhoes along with being an agricultural equipment dealer.  Of course in the big cities such as Rochester and Buffalo everybody had one dealer and they mostly sold backhoes and light dozers if offered.   I suspect that the 1010 you are looking at could be made to run but there are better choices out there and the parts situation on them not very good.
