I know of several fleets locally that have dropped GM in favor of Ford, I hope the trend continues until they wake up or go under.

My plan has always been to NOT by new vehicles. Vehicles realy got lame/dumb around 2012-14 time frame when emissions took over, froo froo sissy accessories got popular.

Or it's just oldmanitus setting in, I'll be 41 Tuesday.....

GM did go under, remember the big government loan, 08 I think it was. they should have just let gmc get bought out by whoever had the money.

Honestly, how many modern drivers could even get a truck to go into 4 lo these days? Or even know what it was for in the first place?  I saw a 92 F150 at an auction not long ago where the transfer case shifter was completely frozen.  I got the feeling it had never been used the first time.

I am in and out 2-3x a week. Backing trailers in and out of steep tight locations, etc etc, its a whole lot easier on things. I also plow in low range. It isn’t how often it is used, it is about having it when you need it.

To give a little benefit to doubt, with a bazzilion speed transmission, you'd think the first 2-3 gears would be low enough that a low range transfer case would be redundant.

Don't get me wrong, I know well what you're talking about.

I'd also jump on the opinion that most 1/2 ton truck owners don't even know what 4 low is.

But let's not give Ford too much credit here. I remember my buddy's early 2000's Expedition (The F150 based SUV) only had a switch with 4wd Auto and 4wd. No 2wd, no 4 low, no neutral.

A lot of the half tons are pretty capable it seems but the majority are used for a family truckster instead of a pickup (which is totally fine).  I want low range for when I need it. The “bazillion speed” transmissions being used to chase fuel economy requirements set forth by our all knowing climate czars seem to be a much larger issue with needing to be replaced in my opinion.

next thing you know they'll do away with granny low

My grandfather always called it "double low".......always made me smile when we'd jump in the grain truck and he'd say, "she's got a good load on, better start'r out in double low".....😀

I’m on the road right now, and they gave me a brand new Chevy.  Had 322 miles on it when I got in it two weeks ago and has a 6.6 Engine.

This thing hollers at me more than anyone in my life.  Check the back seat for kids, you left the keys in the vehicle., the truck is still running, all kinds of alarms and notifications that come with different noises.

Then there is the fuel bill, I put 31+ gallons in it last night, at $5.19 a gallon. Not cheap. Working in the mountains it is pretty thirsty with my lead foot.

overall it underwhelming and sure has not impressed me.

I had a F150 this spring with the eco boost, I thought that was better

I hope you dont have any warranty issues with your Ford.   One of my friends in Idaho nearly went bankrupt over Ford dragging its feet over the 6,0 Powerstroke issues.

    (He owned 3 of them)

4LO or the lack thereof is just one tooth of the buzz saw that hit your rear.  No manual transmissions anymore.  Stupid nanny traction control that sissifies the most powerful 4x4.  Don’t know how many times now I’ve had it that traction control prevented me from getting someplace.

Just curious, are their pickups where you can't push a button and disable wienie mode?

Gotta spin to win! 😁

Can’t answer that for certain.  I suppose such vehicles exist.  We haven’t been cursed with one yet.  Supposedly on some vehicles, switching off the traction control doesn’t actually switch it all the way off.  😡 There is a time and place to hold traction, but I know for a fact that oftentimes the only way to move is full power and turn them wheels.

I was told by a reliable mechanic on my 16’ F250 that you can push the button to disengage but if you push and hold it for several seconds it fully disengages the traction control.

I would be walking a lot if I couldn't turn nanny off.

I'm looking at upgrading trucks in the near featured. Looking around there seems to be nothing in my area for a basic truck, to do truck things. A crew cab for family outings is nice but not 100% necessary, a long bed for Menard's and TSC runs would be nice too. I don't think I've seen a crew cab long box bus since the late 90s fords. Looking for a basic interior even on work package trucks you get the touch screen, power windows, mirrors etc. Seems like trucks are getting away from trucks and are made to make a statement or someone to feel........money doesn't buy happiness but I'm sure you'll feel better crying in a king ranch vs ranger. Looking at old commercials of a truck pulling a semi trailer of logs, or a competitors truck in the bed up a pile of rocks vs now dropping an empty toolbox a foot into the bed makes me laugh

Last time I bought (my wife) a new vehicle (2001 jeep grand Cherokee) she promptly left me in it. Sounds like a country song but it's true.

New vehicles are bad luck. I'll stick with old ones...

Guys it breaks down like this. If you don't buy it they ain't going to build it. Simple as that. If they can't sell a hi/lo transfer case truck with lockouts why build it? And therein lies the problem. Look at how many on here like to brag about their old trucks that just keep going.

And this stuff started in the early 90s when the average new 1/2 ton buyer was a woman who lived in the burbs. Average one never left the pavement.

Haven’t heard anything, I was at the dealer Monday for a dash trim issue, they didn’t say anything.

When I bought my 99 powerstroke it was 3 years old.  Manual seats, manual transfer case, manual transmission.  I bought it then with the plan of never getting rid of it.  Yeah, it's still here and the new ones offer me nothing.  Others will disagree.

Good for you, if i tried to drive the same truck daily for 24 years there wouldn’t be anything to drive. You may have seen my pictures of a 3 year old brake caliper, i can either spend my time searching the country for rust free used trucks that fit my bill then travel to get them then fix whats been neglected and start the process again in 5 years or just buy new.
There is still a market for a truck, GM just doesn’t seem interested in having any share in that market.
