IH tractor drive to FPS

Organized by IHC Collectors chapter 10, today about 50 IH tractors left from Central IL Ag in Farmer city IL and drove the 40 some miles to the FPS site in Decatur IL.  Was a beautiful day. Brilliant blue skies, temps in the low 70’s and a gentle breeze.  I drove my 1466 serial #7103 and my neighbor came and drove my 73 1466.  Got to visit with Max Armstrong and he is every bit as nice and enjoyable to chat with as everyone had always told me.  He led us into the show grounds. The tractors are on display on the north end of the grounds near the gate that goes out to the demonstration fields.

Looks like you are enjoying life! Sharp tractors both.

Random question but did the early 66s not have a hood ornament like all the later ones? I noticed #7103 didn’t have one or the normal mounting holes in the hood.

I followed you from just south of Weldon to I72. I was born and raised in Farmer City farm is just west of town. The dealer was originally called George H. Dunn and started off downtown on the square. The current location started as Hawn & Overton John Deere.

Told my bosses today that Decatur needs to be off limits for the next three days as my usual stops there are right there by the show lol

One of the oddities about this tractor is no place for the little hood emblem.  Pictures of the 1st 1066 show it doesnt have it either.  Someone must have changed their mind as production started.

Yes Max is a great guy! Met him at RRPU in June. Watched him a lot on This Week In Agribusiness!

I love your tractors, you’ve done such a great job restoring them. Looks like it was a great drive!
