The advent of destructive CAFE standards forced them to sell the sh!tbox subcompact cars at a loss to inflate the average economy number so they could make money on the rest of the product line. The overall net result of that rule makes the pickups and regular cars more expensive while the cheap and more dangerous pregnant roller skates are given away to those less able to afford better transportation. Multiply that by 30% efficiency of a diesel ICE and that gives you about 2.5 gallons of fuel. A small tractor like that burns about a gallon per hour when working so I think that was fairly accurate and not really surprising. It’s a step below transmission drive pto, since even they would function in reverse. The three speeds are; too slow, too fast, and transport. I also visited the webpage where they make it very clear that the government in some states will pay you to buy it. A compact kubota would be 100x better in every way. Compacts do have commercial applications in which they fit, just not this one. It is an electric lawn mower. Solectrac had a booth at the NFMS in Louisville this year with a couple tractors on display. They are very crude. I think the PTO a still works while tractor is in reverse. I would consider Tractor Tim an acquaintance. I run into him occasionally. We’ve talked about the Solectrac a little bit and his impressions of it. They’re more of a technology company trying to learn how to build a tractor. CaseIH or Deere can build a tractor but don’t have the experience with the battery and electric drive. Not comparing Solectrac to Tesla but similar situation. Tesla figured out the electric drive and charging infrastructure but didn’t know how to build cars in volume like Toyota or Ford. They’ve learned over the years and improved and now have the best selling “not-a-truck” vehicle in the USA in 2023. I doubt we see Solectrac become the next Tesla. I don't do face people. Made it through 13:26 in the video & had enough of his prattling. That & the comparison tractor is a POS. Could have at least gone with a Deere or something. I'll be digging around for more vids about the Solectrac, but I can already about guess what's out there My major complaint about the Solectrac is lack of interchangeable battery. That's just dumb. Maybe Milwaukee Electric Tool will come out with an electric tractor? That would be something I'd look at more seriously. They'd be more prone to not making a giant turd muffin. Tractor & two batteries, charging unit, etc. all balled into one deal. You bring up a good question. Wonder how much those batteries weigh? Can't be as bad as forklift batteries. It was supposed to have a generator & 110 outlet to run tools off of. That never materialized & neither did the rear PTO. The former would have been really handy to have. We almost didn't get it at the time for that reason, but that was a better deal than what Ford-NH was offering for a loaded 1520. The funny thing is, the CaseIH dealer gave us a great deal on a trade in toward the 3225 & the Ford dealer wouldn't even look at it. It was a fully restored 8N with some attachments, also restored. He imported, at horrendous cost , an electric powered tractor , from the United States....The brand name escapes me, it certainly was not "Farmall '' I will go back thru the Farming Magazines to see if I can find the relevant detail...but I recall the cost of the machine in NZ Dollars around 150 K plus freight and all the other BS that goes with something quite different from the normal.... (USD equates about 60 cents NZD ) The general consensus from the local cockies was that Diesel was unlikely to be pushed aside by these coal powered tractors.......and...as it has been long since realised overseas , by folk who have and indeed , use their brain....""where has all the power gone ''?
