F-301066460puller
My 460 runs like a Deere at the moment. Has a couple issues one is a carb second is we believe the coil is not up to snuff. It has a Mallory distributor with Pertronix kit in stalled. My question is would I be better off using the 1.5 ohm flamethrower coil or the 3.0 ohm one. I've done some research and am leaning towards the 1.5 but pertronix says that should be used on 8cyl and the 3.0 on 4-6cyl. But as far as I can tell the main issue is heat and I'm not running this thing for hours at a time so thinking this will not be an issue. What do you guys think? New Englander
I'd go with the recommended one. Unless you're running ungodly compression any descent coil should be fine.
vtfireman85
My experience with pertronics has not been good but my understanding is that it is not a matter of the hotter the better, but merely a matter of being hot enough. If they have a recommendation, I would stick with it.
F-301066460puller
350 psi cylinder pressure and e85 fuel for now. Got both coils on the way just in case lol
int 504
The wrong coil resistance can pull too much amperage through the box and poof you let the smoke out.
snoshoe
I think it has more to do with time. If you keep it screaming. The 1.5 will be fine. If lugged down or left idling. It may cook something. The joys of competition. How much can I risk.
DT Fan
12 volt system, 3 ohm coil. No external resistor.
F-301066460puller
That's what was at the back of my mind... there is no ign box.... yet..... but also with the f'n e85 (why I'm getting a different carb) I have to let it idle quit awhile to keep the frost out of the intake. Getting a 7700 gas carb for it for next year. Just have one pull left. Just want it to run at least once lol. Gonna be fun once it's lined out.

Gearclash
Hmm. Wonder what ohm my skid loader has in it? It’s a Pertronix Ignitor I with a Flamethrower coil. Resistor was eliminated right away. 4 cylinder engine.
