poor farmer/logger
Buy king of obsoletes and you can build one of your own too. He sent his south a few weeks ago to be sold unfortunately. Was hoping he’d get it going but he gave up when parts got expensive and hard to get.

The 366 in my C-70 probably flirts with about three mpg loaded!
hardtail
3 mpg might be a bit high, I think KOO had said and it wasn't 1:1 but it wasn't far off
jeeper61
It is hard to imagine that a Rochester 2 barrel can flow that much gas. Looks like they have a couple of big Holley 2 barrels on that one

Back in 1980 or 81 the company I worked for had a C-70 tandem 427 with a 5 speed and 3 or 4 speed axillary can't remember for sure which now. Never checked the MPG because of company tank with no readout. Wasn't good though.
DT Fan
I was going to check the mileage on it last fall but never got the darn thing full! Stupid pumps shut off at a hundred $$. Maybe this year?

I lent my buddy a Holley 750 double pumper in the 80's and he put it on the 427 and said it ran awesome but he couldn't afford to run it
jeeper61
We will need @AngrySailor to do a MPG check on his BBC, it's got a large Holley on it His figures will be more like GPM

oleman
I worked at a gas station in 60, owner ran a 57 Ford F900 gasser tractor that I was supposed to fuel-up before every trip. Hauled fertilizer on a 40' flatbed in 200# bags in season. I caught heck for failing to fill the aux tank, main tank was dry after 40 miles, believe the tank was 40 gallons and I believe engine was a 391 (What ever the big dog was in 57) Ford. None of the large gasser engines got economy, no one cared because gas was only $.16 per gallon. The real issue was carrying enough fuel to get to the next fuel stop. It was much cheaper to operate a gasser in 1960 than a Cummins load equivalent today.

Late fifties I think the 401, 477 and 534 could be installed in heavy ford trucks. Some still used In the mid-seventies to haul dirt on big building sites in my area in lower gears. Fuel truck was used on job site. Made a lot of noise, maybe because the exhausts needed work. Was usually digging dirt so didn't drive one.

Lars (midessa)
My first fuel delivery truck was a F-800 with a 361, and a 5x2 transmission. No power steering, no a/c, no radio. 2000 gal Brownie tank, 4 compartments, dual hose & meters, dual pto.

No idea on the rear gears and both are auto, of course, but no complaint about lack of power. The 650 replaced a drop kick with a 454/allison, and is a huge improvement. The750 replaced another drop kick with a CAT 6 cylinder. Maybe about equal feel powerwise, but we have had way less repairs with the V10 truck. We are getting a Chevy 6500 4 wheel drive in the very near future. They are putting the body on it now. Also gas, not sure on which engine.
