KY2674
I have a 1466 that has sat outside for a couple years, never being started. Finally got it started and while driving it jerks in and out of gear, worse going downhill. The TA used to work but pulling the lever has no effect up or downhill. Changed hyd filter and got some slime/alge out but new filter and topping off level did not help. Brakes and steering seem to work fine. Haven't tried overfilling the trans yet. Never worked this tractor much but everything seemed to work before it lost its spot in the shop.
Diesel Doctor
When it jerks do you still have brakes and steering? Sounds like you are losing MCV pressure.

Never loose steering. Can hold it with brakes and all of a sudden it will build pressure and take off again
ksfarmdude
Sounds like a T/A issue pressure checks are in order either the sealing rings on the T/A unit are bad or sprag clutch is out also 2
snoshoe
Dump valve stuck open?
stronger800
That could be it, if it sat outside enough to rust the lower part of the linkage. And pulling the lever back-and-forth is only flexing and bending the long rodbut not actually moving to valve, right?

Internal springs push it in (closed). With spool stuck open. Rod passes back and forth through hole in end of lever doing nothing.
stronger800
I didn’t know that, but I understand now. I know that I keep mine adjusted, and that we bought a 1066 once that had a “non working” TA, when in fact it’s only problem was somebody had installed part of the linkage wrong after removing it for some unknown reason. It had an aftermarket auxiliary fuel tank, custom steps and dual group 31 batteries in a nice box all mounted in that area….and they just messed something up when going back together. So I say always start simple 1
HydroTek
Sprag clutch is out -- and you have hydraulic pressure problems 1

Pulled it out of the barn in the daylight for the first time, and it coasted down the hill into the yard. Talk about soul-crushing disappointment. The sprag did catch and move the tractor, though. What a relief when I crawled under it and found the dump valve stuck open. Little bit of PB and a couple of taps was all it took to "rebuild" the TA, lol... 1
