I could be wrong, but that's what I seem to remember. 1086 had the final issue of the DT414 with 131 hp while the 14 had a DT436 and 145 hp. Both had 3.5" axles but I don't know about gear dimensions.

Alan Dinan
Don’t have any pictures of dad’s, it came in 1987 with factory red duals, around 3500 hours. Looked good after some wax, but had the typical burnt right side decal. Got dad to get the muffler eliminator and at that time found a curved chrome pipe for it. It left in 2001 at dad’s retirement sale with around 4800 hours on it

There are far more qualified guys on here to explain this but I'm pretty sure the 10s final drives were closer to the 12s and the 1486 finals have its roots from the 1456. The 1086 got bigger axles for some reason but rest is same as 1066.

acem
I should get the prize for ugliest 1086 in the thread. I'm the third owner. The original owner was winrock farms (Winthrop Rockefeller). They owned an IH dealership for years and still own a farm/ranch in Arkansas. It has mostly original paint except the red primer on the roof. A barn collapsed and fell all around it, damaging the cab. I had to pull the ceiling out of the cab out to work on the roof. Obviously the ac is not working since the ceiling is out so the doors are off. Steps were bent. Etc. It is actually a good running tractor but needs a clutch job (slips under load) and put back together. It's running the cih8309 disc bine. It's had a 2450 loader since new. acem
Oh yeah. It's also doubles as a tire machine. I had a flat on the mower.
Drysleeves
A new era in 1086 history. Tire bead breaker. Qualifies for a homemade and handy farm rag entry.
