Farming Enthusiast
Not mine but was my grandpas and now my dads. It was my grandpas favorite tractor. He liked the cab much better than the ones on the 1066s. We use it now to plant and blow snow. It is just as nice to run as a new tractor but a lot more reliable. Fitted with Michelin Agribibs it's a very nice handling and riding tractor in the field.

IHandJDman
Woohoo, I got this one. Bought my 1978 1086 in 2019 and probably paid to much. It was the 1st cab tractor I've ever owned and now I wouldn't be parted with it. I use it for everything on the farm. It has around 6400 hrs. The only things left to do is change to an air ride seat and finish the cab kit. I bought it from a friend's Step-dad. They had quit farming and no longer needed it.

Sledgehammer
Grandpa purchased this 1086 new. It is a 1978 delivered new March 14, 1979 according to the warranty card. Showing just under 4300 original hours and sitting on what I believe are the original 20.8x38 BFG’s. No IH duals available at the time but the dealership had these white DMI dual wheels. Has the 8 track player and a good working cigar lighter 😊. It originally had the soft rear end gears and was updated early in life. This was the only new tractor he ever bought and has never been out of the family. It isn’t perfect but is original and my favorite because of the family tie. 19
IH FARMS
Here's mine. All this 1086 does is the planting. Out of all the tractors I own this would probably be the last one to leave.

Has those funky slab split handle weights that were only on a few 86 Series rides. Another IH mystery.

wheatking
i was the same way always wanted one and finally got one, i bought a 1980 model just before the red panels i like the white better myself few more hours than id like at 8900 hrs but it will only get 20-30 hrs a year here, i got abit of a deal on it as it had clutch issues we split it in my shop and found the release bearing was gone and the pilot bearing was seized, get it put back together before harvest hopefully for auger duty's runs strong good tires cab needs some attention it was out of an estate sale and everything sat for a few years mice got into the cab and tore it up good aswell as a nest in the fan up top thats gotta be cleaned out yet

Yes, Grandpa isn’t around to ask anymore but this was sitting on the lot a while no doubt when he purchased it. According to him, “I never had anything nice, I had the money and needed a larger tractor.” He happened to have the money to buy it and that’s what was on the lot. Prior to this their big horse was an open station 706G so this was a big deal…He told me he wanted a full set of weights and duals. The duals were added because the dealer was a short line salesman of DMI. The weights don’t have IH part numbers on them (I don’t think). They have been discussed here as “funky” like you say but I’m not sure I’ve ever seen an answer as to what/when for sure they were there for or start stop dates. I haven’t looked for them in a parts manual honestly.

I could be wrong, but that's what I seem to remember.
