5288IH
This might sound like a dumb question does MFWD shaft still turn when disengaged on a 5288, as at the moment MFWD is not working.
1967806
Yep, still does if front differential is still ok.

5288IH
Next question is it usually power or solenoid issue if it does not engage
Littlefeller
I will check in my book in a few hours if no one has given you an answer yet, but those are spring pressure to engage. It takes enough hydraulic pressure to overcome the spring pressure to disengage. I will look in my book and hopefully post a couple pictures from it to help you out. Littlefeller
That is for the solenoid, checking the rocker switch is pretty straightforward. First I would make sure the driveshaft is turning while tractor is moving. If not front end issue. If it does turn and solenoid and switch are working, then the clutch for fwd is slipping. Also check the splines on the driveshaft. I may be wrong but I think sometimes they stripped the splines so driveshaft wouldn't engage front end, but dont remember positively
88power
if it's not turning when the tractor is moving remove the driveshaft and check the splines on the shaft coming out of the rear of the tractor and front axle and the drive shaft itself, we had one 8 or so years ago one shaft was wore badly and apparently it's a pretty common issue from what i've seen since then. Normally if its a electrical issue the front axle won't disengage switch, fuse, wiring, etc.
ZG6E
This last winter my 5488 wouldn't engage mfwd. The solenoid valve under the cab was stuck open. I replaced it with a hydraforce valve for about half the cost the dealer wanted and all is well now.
HydroTek
OP could take the line loose on the RH side of the tractor that operates the MFD -- with the switch ON, there should be no oil flowing

HydroTek
Left, Right, Forward, Backward, Up, and Down are established by standing behind the machine, and facing the direction of normal travel if you choose to stand in front of the machine you will be ran over , plowed under, or various other forms of demise . Front and rear of engine and drivetrain are established by the power input and output -- Front on an engine would be the crank pulley end -- Rear on the front differential in an AWD machine would still be the diff cover . Maynard
Here's a top view component ID illustration. MFD solenoid and valve are on the LR side, same as the Magnums.
