They finally got me.

This happened here 2 weeks ago. 17-year-old kid only lived a mile and a half up the road. Has been driving past the farm his whole life. Tried passing as 856 and chopper box was pulling into the farm driveway. Less than a quarter of a mile from the intersection he turned up.

My first thought when i saw the title, “ They finally got me” i expected to read that the extended warranty telemarketers finally were able to track you down because as you know, they have been trying to reach you.

Keep track of your mileage and fuel going to get one too.  We all pay too much for insurance, so you should get taken care off.

I'm not paying for crap, hopefully can be delivered.

Things would be better if people would remember, driving is a responsibility, not a privelage, pay attention and use the golden rule. When I got my motorcycle endorsement, 15 years back, I remember the acronym, SIPDE.

Scan, identify, process, decide and execute.

We teach SEE now in the MSF motorcycle class. Search, Evaluate, Execute.

Most of you guys drive bigger trucks and equipment on a daily basis, I am stuck in the office most of the time. The other weekend I rented a 10 ton dump truck to haul fill, three days of driving that thing really opened my eyes to how bad drivers are now a days and also how great the township roads are in Pennsylvania!

We had a tractor rear ended at work the other year by a 3500 dually with a trailer, got said that he looked down to look at directions and when he looked up he was on the shoulder right into our rig. He was doing about 60 in a 45 mph zone. Tractor was a JD 5300 with a Rhino Flail on the back, the heavy flail took the initial shock, but it also blew out the left rear tire and the impact pushed the tractor around 180 degrees, and it came to rest on its side facing the direction he came from. Luckily, we had constructed a FOPS with limb risers on it which protected the operator. She was belted in and rode it out, only a small cut on her head. She does suffer from PTSD from it though, she tried driving the replacement along the road and wasn't able to face it yet. Tractor and flail were totaled by his insurance company, tractor didn't look bad, but we figured that there was internal damage in engine and transmission, it snapped all the cast iron 3 pt arms right off.

Glad you were able to walk away from it.  A very scary situation.

I fully believe that you should have to take the skills test every time you renew your license!!

I'd love to see every 10 years. The system would be so bogged down though it'll never happen.  Drivers license is the only license you ever get that has ZERO continuing ed, but it's one of the most dangerous licenses to have.

Will throw this out there as a guess. He was distracted by a cell phone.

No, but was talking to his mom through bluetooth. I'm like the state cop, conversations can be distracting. he had a mile of visibility. None of us can figure it out. that means I was in view for a little over a minute on a 4 laner, hugging the fog line.

I'm all for LESS government involvement in our lives, but for 20 years I've said continuing education for a driver's license should be mandatory nation wide.  Drivers today are just terrible,  and they'll NEVER have an update on laws and safety after age 16.

Glad everyone's OK, it could have been much, much worse.

When in driver's ed back in the day, there was way too much emphasis on parallel parking rather than how to actually drive the vehicle with some sort of skill. All of my fellow students were uniformly worried whether they'd be able to parallel park because that was crucial. Not so much about trail braking, cornering, or the apex of a curve. We all should've been in an empty parking lot with rubber cones and learned how to drive as opposed to how to park a vehicle.

The only thing a license proves is that you paid the bribe for them to allow you to drive.  Sure doesn't mean you have any skills.

Also, what would we expect to happen when more people than not are looking at a screen of some kind while they're driving?

A tractor and bale wagon that size, out in the open, with an SMV emblem, how could anyone not see this?

This persons insurance company should deem the driver an "Idiot" and cancel the insurance after the claim is paid.

There is truth to the claim, "You can't stop stupid!"

No one was seriously hurt and the iron can be replaced, but, it really makes a person wonder?

Steve is absolutely 100% right on this. Its not really about safety or proving skills. Its about the money the state makes off of it. There is a lot of people who bunggle driving a little Tykes car much less a real vehicle. Think of the money the state wouldn't get if they couldn’t drive between plates and licenses.

Lets be honest. If it was about safety. Why all the rules on semi trucks, stake trucks, pickups pulling trailers for what's reason. But you don't need any rules, inspections, endorsements etc. To pull your fifth wheel travel trailer, boat trailer or whatever foot motorhome. Usually pulling another vehicle or trailer to boot.

If I get into a wreck with a motorhome, or of a commercial vehicle of similar size and weight. You know what? The motorhome isn't going to hurt less or cause any less damage than the other vehicle. One way they have you by the balls, the other generates to much money for the state so they look away.

We had a conversation about this a few weeks ago when the gentleman was killed on his 300 driving home from the tractor show at the mall.

SMV emblems are used stationary as driveway markers and such so people forget what they really mean. They also get put on 5x8 foot utility trailers that see 80 mph cooking up highway 41 around here. I'm sure other places too.

Speeding with a SMV is a ticket offense but what do you do with the joker who has them on his mailbox?

We have a tavern 1/2 mile to the north of the farm and open road in both directions. Southbound traffic is a left turn into the farmyard As bad as it is everywhere, throw a couple wobble pops in the picture and your odds of getting hit are higher than getting in the yard safely.
