Frankenstein 806/966

Recommended Posts

I have a slick 806 LP with bad engine and a good running 966 with SEVERAL transmission and rear end issues.  Can I split them at the bell housing and put everything from bellhousing forward on the rear half of the 806?

The 66 series is 2" wider but it's all metal. snoeshoe expressed concerns over the bell housing bolt pattern in the other thread, but the bolt pattern is the same from the first 706 to the last 3688. The 5x88 series and even the Boxcar Magnums might have the same bolt pattern too, going by the 1066/Magnum hybrid tractor that's out there.

It'll bolt right up. You can even use the 966's flywheel clutch and pressure plate. There will be a 1" ear sticking out at the bell housing on each side, but it's just cosmetic. You could cut a plate to bolt on to the bell housing to disguise it if it bothers you.

The only complication might be hood fit at the console. If you move the 966 console over to the 806 you then add the complication of having to change over the range cover from the 966 to be compatible with the 56/66 style shifter.

Should not have to change console either. Possibly maybe the riser pieces, but not console. Will need the center part bolted to the top of your 66 one, but will bolt right to your 806 one.

All of the “large” bell housing tractors had same bolt pattern. Starting with a ‘39 M all the way to 5488. H, 460, 666, and such are “small” bell housing. They are different.

Then it will be the same for at least the 71xx series Magnums, and possibly the entire "boxcar" line and into the early MX's.
