TomH
That is what I was thinking, it was working for several hours close enough to hear but not see it. There is a large powerline nearby, possibly what it was doing.

12_Guy
Gearclash has it right. They use them to trim the trees back from the powerlines. 20 years ago I saw them being used on steep, rugged terrain. Now they use them on flat land as well. Green energy? HA Wonder how many gallons per hour that outfit drinks. Can't imagine the cost per hour / day / mile. Probably not allowed to use any herbicides anymore. Not sure how it used to be done but seems like there could be a better/ cheaper way. Wonder about the pilot's life expectancy. Stress or crashing both could be bad. I'm told that there is a quick release to drop the saw if necessary. I was working on a job near a powerline. That cutter flew by multiple times a day. It would go by and be gone for about an hour, I assume cutting, and then came back for a short time maybe 20-30 minutes,I assume refueling. This went on for several days. Pickle the load means release external load or bombs. I've no idea where the term came from but it's common use.

Seems plausible to me.
