Still just getting things washed up and put away here. Been a steady week of cleaning. Went through a lot of water anyways. Need to haul another tank or two to fill the cistern back up again.  Hoping to get the last of the equipment back in the shed tomorrow morning. Have to shuffle a bunch of stuff around and it’s always a pain. Got the swather back on all 4 tires again as well. Had to order a new pivot pin and the spacer. Hopefully never have that issue again.  Today was a bit of a waste in a way. Had to do some errands and then pick up a truck I made a deal on last week.  Deal came up and I decided it was time to buy. Sorry hardtail Ab didn’t win out this time lol.  Fleet pricing through a farm group called apas so it was 2% over cost. Still a lot more than any of us ever thought we’d spend on a pickup though 😢.  Hopefully treats me well at least. Still have the duramax here just incase anyways lol.  Must admit it’s starting to look like a used car lot out front now though lol.  Need to get the clutch done in the 03 dodge so it’s drivable again too. Maybe once the snow comes.

Congrats, looks pretty fancy, hopefully no codes and issues like taking Dad's back on its maiden voyage, might have to delegate the Snowmax to pulling sleds in salt?

Thanks. Liking it so far. Well the dash quit working momentarily before I left the small town of Nipawin strangely enough was working as soon as I got back to the dealership again. (Never fails lol)  I’ll definitely use the snowmax(lol) if the roads are wet. Not sure def is fool proof in the winter yet anyways. Seems to be sucking it up awfully quick at the moment so might have to look into that before long too.

The previous owner of my JD/Macdon had the pivot pin for the rear axle break off and dropped the back end of the swather right on the ground. I've seen the pictures and take it easy if theres rough ground. 

Finished up harvest October 9th and got a couple of nice days to put a few things away for winter before it turned to rain and cold this morning. Hope we get a lot more nice weather this fall but not counting on it. Thought I could hear combines working after dark last night but most are done around here.

Finished our little crop yesterday. Only have 200 acres and a truckload a night after work kept me busy for a 12 days. We started 2 weeks ago and finished yesterday but had a weekend of rain so only really 7 days the first week and 4 the second week. My brother took a day off each week but ended up having an alternator quit and chopper bearing go out on Friday. Yield was good also so can’t complain.

That’s great to hear that you guys are done. Hopefully this snowy weather that’s coming through stays clear of db1486. Almost looked like he had a bullseye overtop him though.  
 

Think I might go work on my sleds today just incase. Have one on standby just incase it shifts further west lol.  It looks like we’re right on the edge of the line though. Hopefully it stays away. Sure cold and wet out today though. Don’t think I’ll be doing anything outside today.

The bullseye over us yesterday was sun and wind lol. Was cloudy all around and heard it drizzled after lunch about 10-15 miles southeast of where we were combining. Those clouds got too close for my comfort lol. Drizzly and damp today here, calling for snow tonight. Another week of the last few days weather would be very welcome but forecast does not look good later this week. Might be a wet end to fall, good for field work I guess lol

We got wrapped up combining at 3 or 4 am. Have a bunch of hay down yet but we tried baling about 5 am but it was testing way too damp to do. Dew was just starting to come on then. We got rolling on canola again Wednesday evening. Was 11 at noon then dropped to about 9 by 5 and we ran well in to the night every day. Seed just got drier as we went, think it was down to 7.4 yesterday. Other than 1 bin of canola that was about 25 degrees, it's all dry and cold, just how we like it lol. I figured we needed 6 days to finish harvest after last weekends damp spell, and we did it in 4, so that's a bonus lol

Perfect timing by the sounds of it. Sucks that you’ve still got hay down but at least the grains all off. Maybe it’ll freeze dry yet. Yesterday was really nice here too  til labor 3:00 then the wind started picking up. Came home from my sisters cabin last night at about 8:00 and the leaves flying were almost like a blizzard lol. 
 

Grass is white here now. Around 3/4” of rain so everything’s soaked up pretty good here at the moment.

Still a bit of snow hanging around but it’s mostly gone now again. Sure made one awful mess of the roads through. Header was out this morning trying to smooth out the main grid but it was really to wet. You all know what happens when you try to spread wet clay.  Managed to get up for one load of firewood. It’s a start anyways. Still a long ways to go before we’re really ready for winter though.

Been busy hauling wood and catching up on all the little jobs around the farm. Still not caught up but making progress at least. Up to 5 loads of wood now. Spent today turning canola bins while it was somewhat nice out yet. Sounds like the forecast is heading downhill again.  Kind of wish we had a couple more weeks of +20°c weather.  Took the weekend off and went quadding. By myself in saturday and Sunday my brother came home so we loaded mom up with one of the extra quads here and headed out for there day. Was a little cool out but a fun afternoon regardless.

Looking like snow coming here later in the week too but at least highs are still above 0. Still.a bit of combining happening around here but I think in the next day or 2 everyone should be wrapped up. Was rain in the forecast for this morning but it ended up staying east of us so that was nice for a change lol. Finished up baling 2nd cut hay and straw last night. Still got a few jobs that would be nice get done before it snows but at least there's nothing left laying a swath here now

been busy busy around here, cleaning up equipment, packing it away for winter and getting some grain hauled out before to much snow shows up, helped a couple neighbors finish up as well so almost snowmobile time 

bit sad new we ended up losing a couple quarters of rented land this fall owners decided to sell and went for quite abit more than i wanted to pay but oh well carry on i guess 

 

poor farmer did you make your way to the snow show, i had help that day so we put more equipment away in other sheds so i didnt make it in, looks like a skiff of snow is on its way here for friday

Sucks to loose land that way that’s for sure. Not 100% sure we’ll have the same acres for next year either. Unsure what the local reserve is doing yet. Always kind of a last minute thing there it seems.

I didn’t go down to the snow show this year no. Considered it but really there wasn’t much I actually needed to be honest.  New truck kind of blew the new sled budget lol.  Hoping to put power steering on my sidewinder yet. See if I feel rich enough I guess. 1700 bucks for the parts so it’s not exactly cheap. For trail riding it would be nice though.

Still hauling firewood home when I get a chance here. At 6 loads now. Hopefully get a couple more yet at least before the snow comes. Have to run the tandem down to Humboldt tomorrow to get some fenders put on and the safety support for the box put on. We’d paid for the support when we got the truck but never got time to take it back down. Roads are series up enough here now we can make it work I think. Rained close to another inch on Saturday night Sunday morning. Actual water laying in some of the low spots now in the field. Still a few guys trying to put nh3 down.  Got some canol contracted so once things freeze up I’ll have to get on that I guess. Doubtful our yard will dry up before it freezes. After that last rain it’s awful. Roads are bad shape too. Dry now but very rough.  Going to be like that all winter now😢.  Was up on our north quarter today smoothing out some spots where we had logs piled and pushed a few trees back into the bush. Some great big black poplars that are dying out and falling into the field now.

Well it looks like our nice weather is done now. Got the skidder moved home this morning so I can do some work to it. Took the tandem down to humboldt yesterday to get the work done so of course now it has to snow according to the forecast. Not sure if I’ll get it home this week or not. Don’t want to take it out of the rods are a mess again.  Picked up my power steering kit yesterday so I’ve got something to work on if I ever get bored lol.

Well not much to report over here yet for the new crop year. As I type this it’s snowing again lol. We were very close to starting doing some work out in the fields and then this crap showed up again.  Have everything close to ready to go and almost all our seed cleaned and ready. Just waiting on a little bit of wheat to get cleaned next week. They got pushed back by all the snow we had too.  Late winter has caused a rippling effect all over. Was in the elevator yesterday and they’re short 800 tonnes of canola to fill a train this week. Between washed out roads and road bans guys haven’t been able to haul. I got our contract filled on Monday. Was busy hauling wheat the end of last week as well so at least caught up on that for now.

Ah was wondering about this topic this other day,,  been going for afew days been abit of a struggle this spring every time the yard dried up enough to move around it snowed again, finally got grain cleaned and new wheat variety home and got seeding saturday with another cost of $450 sensor that i needed to get the drill calibrated, peas are in, 1 quarter of new wheat seed is in aswell as 1 quarter of durum 

 

ended up with half inch of rain yesterday so be nice to settle things down abit was getting dusty and dry out there

What varieties of wheat are you growing this year? We bought a bunch of new seed to get some fresh inventory again. Ended up going with Starbuck.  See if it does any better than Brandon. Kind of the same thing I’m thinking

Most of the corn and soybeans here are planted. We are still running and don’t expect to be done before the end of the month at best. It’s almost 90 F here. It feels hot today. We’re on the dry side as far as moisture goes, but most crops that are up look fair. There has been a fair amount of replant on the early stuff already.

i grew wheatland last year i was slightly impressed with it but its a wheat midge variety so can only keep 1 year so kept seed for most my acres for this year but bought new westking wheat to replace it it's a new variety for this year to replace Brandon we'll see how it does, seed dealer talked it up quite abit he doesnt even sell wheatland or starbuck wheat anymore 

 

just a cold wind here today dried quite abit so we'll see what the weather does tommorow to either spray or seed something

We grew Starbuck here and really liked it but didn't like that we could only keep 1 generation of seed. Went to Hockley a couple years ago and seems just as good, just not midge tolerant so can keep the seed as long as we want. Grew Starbuck and Hockley side by side last year and we didn't see any difference in anything at all. 

Lots of guys are done seeding wheat here now. Nothing is growing yet. Still cold, snow along the field edges I think is mostly gone now. Frost was still coming out of the ground this past week. We are gonna start as soon as the weather turns nice. It's getting below freezing every night, forecast is snow all day today but hasn't started yet. Feels like April weather, not seeding weather

Well few little set backs but nothing to major so far thankfully. And even better no stucks “yet”.  Home quarter is done for now. Hopefully it dries up a bit more and I can get back into a few more places. Had to leave the old pasture east of the house and some sloughs in the field. Wasn’t horrible but it’s sure wet underneath yet.  Winston was helping me check seed depth the first night out lol.
