Started May 2nd working tiled corn ground, finished June 6th.  I think this is the 2nd time I have ever planted beans in June.  Was a year of maybe 3 days nice weather, then rain, cold, crap a$$ weather.  I am honestly surprised everything got in the ground and actually grew!  It was a year of going around wet holes, that have since dried and some have cracks 1/4" wide.  Nothing we have not seen before.  Fingers crossed we get moisture when crucial.  

Corn planted the 2nd week of May on untitled ground, i should not have been in there at all.  I am 5'11" for reference.  Now, it is 2 feet above as high as i can reach. Beans planted June 1st in 5th year beans.  Yeah don't go there!

Did the paint test this year, this 1 weeks growth.  Kinda crazy what a corn plant can do, especially when it has a little bit of moisture and some stupid hot and humid days.

Needed to empty sprayer out and I had 1 pass through the field to do yet. It has been wet and other things got in the way. This is one of the nicer stands of soybeans we have had for a long time. Soybeans are blooming and have about 5 pods on bottom now.

Not a whole lot new or exciting here lately. Hauling grain pretty steady for the next couple days yet. 
 

took off on Sunday again and went up north for a while again. U loaded the quad for a little bit but again ended up putting more miles on the truck then the quad. Didn’t take much for pictures this time. It’s all devastation to say the least though. Some green patches mixed in here and there but man where it burnt it burnt hot. Especially in the jack pine.  Came. Across an older skidder similar to ours that went up in the fire. Few good parts left but not much unfortunately. 
 

Canola is getting more green then yellow now except

for the late patches that came up. Another week and most of it will be all green I think. My earliest field is pretty much there now.  Was back up to our north quarter tonight to show mom the tall canola. She walked down and took a couple more pics.  There’s some over my head now if you stand it upright.  Podded down fairly low to the ground once you get into the field as well.  Hopefully it yields good.

nothing to much to report here either, crops are comin along starting to really fill out now, could be a tad later harvest start date but thats ok, been emptying out grain bins and putzing away at equipment, just the big job of cleaning cleaning the bins out getting the rotten crap out,  hard to get motivated for that one 

 

did get away to the Reynolds automotive museum in Wetaskiwin, ab   highly recommend if passing thru the area lot of stuff of all sorts to look at

no missed that by a few days, pretty interesting place, i went on the warehouse tour aswell, now that is something i coulda spent a week in there

Took the afternoon off yesterday and went back up to the lake again. Had supper with my brother and sister then came back home again. Got out on our annual boat ride at least lol.  Went out crop scouting tonight again. Heat sure brought the wheat on quick. Forecast for the next few days looks pretty gloomy though talking upwards of 1.5-2 inches of rain. Gets ugly out I might head out to combine world and get a set of guards and sections for the swather. Seems to be a whole lot cheaper there.  10 bucks a guard counts up.

poorfarmer you buying new guards for $10 cheaper?  i was told there is true schumacher guards and knock offs that schumacher also sells, was told the difference was how pointy the guard is true ones have quite a point on them and the knock offs have a shorter point but other than that they are identical

had dealer out this morning the fore-aft function wasnt working on teh swather turned out to be electrical and got him to look at my macdon header aswell the finger in the drum were acting weird long story short we ended up pulling the drum out and sent it back with him for a rebuild hopefully wont cost to crazy

These were genuine Schumacher guards. I was a bit skeptical too. Sections as well. Exact same ones we got from agco last fall only 1.25 or so cheaper/piece. Still counted up though. Just shy of 2,000 bucks for everything to do our 30’ swather. I didn’t get the end sections or the head bolts I guess. I have one end section but not head bolts I don’t think. They were having trouble finding the right ones in the back. I’m. Sure if the girls upfront had looked them up they would’ve had them though. Guards were 23.5 a piece and sections were 2.50 or something like that. The tripple guard was just over 50 I believe.

Got started on the header today. Debating on some other parts though and replacing all the guard bolts too. There’s some mismatched fastener sizes that take different wrenches. Gets frustrating when you have to keep grabbing different sockets and wrenches.  The guide rollers are all seized up too so might be making another parts run tomorrow maybe.(closer to home this time though probably lol)

lol I’m kind of maxed out now. Have 3 1/2” one 3/8” and a 1/4” impact driver that mainly gets used as an impact wrench.  Haven’t splurged on a 3/4” yet. Haven’t really needed it so far.  Been buying some more of the newer forge batteries. Sure like them. Last one I got was a 8.0 and you can work it pretty much as hard as you want on the grinder and it will not overheat. The others start blinking lights at you pretty quick.

Not sure I like the looks of this. They have us under a rainfall warning now. Hopefully it doesn’t amount to much. Don’t exactly need 2 inches of rain right now. This morning they were saying up to 3.  Cousins are down in sturgis right now and starting to make their way back too. Not exactly ideal weather for them. Haven’t heard from them today so they might be making miles back trying to beat the storm too.  Just checked Snapchat map and they’re just north of spearfish right now so still a ways to go  could y be a cold wet ride home maybe

North of here could sure use it too. Still closing highways daily or piloting cars through due to wildfires. Been a crazy summer for fires that’s for sure. 
 

Extreme downpour here for the last hour or so now. Haven’t been brave enough to venture out to the rain gauge yet lol.

Well siting at about 2.5 inches here now. It came down extremely hard this morning for a while and then this afternoon again around 3:30 or so. Kind of a light drizzle here now. Calling for more so who knows where we’ll end up. Hopefully it smartens up now again. Don’t exactly need it here now. Don’t think the fires go much either. Storms went north west this morning and then late afternoon the shifted and are now headed back south. Thought that was a little odd.

Another 8/10” overnight now. Real slow steady rain so everything is saturated at the moment again.  If the sun comes out it’ll soak in quick. Sure hope this doesn’t settle in for the next month or two though.

had 1.3 inches here steady rain for quite afew hours. just finished moving bins before it hit, 1 fertilizer bin was sinking bad so pulled it out and built a better base and put it back and  move my new fertilizer bin i bought last fall beside it, just got finished anchoring them down

Went for a little crop tour the other way from home this time. Things are looking not to bad. Just wish it would stay warm and dry for a while now again.  Sounds like a chance of more rain this week again. Not a lot but it doesn’t take much now. Days are getting shorter already and the highs just aren’t the same anymore.  Need at least a couple more frost free weeks yet too.

Well it’s still raining nearly everyday here yet it seems.  Big storm rolled through last night about 8:00. Dumped another 8/10” in a few minutes.  We had .5” prior to that in the day so the yard was a mess already.  Could see the storm coming when we got home yesterday afternoon so I got busy and put some equipment on some of the bin skids that were empty and exposed. Kept a tandem load or so in each bin but have a few that got completely emptied when I was hauling a couple weeks back.  Still working on equipment off and on. Have it in the shed so if it keeps raining I still have something to do.  Got the last of the halogen lights replaced on the combine today. Did a bunch last year and decided to complete it off this year. Should help when unloading at dark hopefully. Was getting hard to see in the trailer/truck. Especially black canola at night.  Picked up a Cheap crimper on Amazon and some knockoff metripack connectors. Worked out ok.

Had to run to town this morning to swap out some bolts I got earlier this week so I stoped at one of my canola fields to take a Quick Look. Getting closer now. Seeds are changing color anyways. Another week to ten days and it’ll should be ready to spray hopefully.  Some guys would be swathing it already lol.

Hard for me to tell when to start swathing. Canola looks ripe from the road but when I walk in the pods are all green. I did find a black seed or two so tried a bit on the earliest seeded field yesterday evening. Did not go far before I quit. By the calendar it should be ready but not by the pods. Cooler weather and over an inch and a half of rain in the past week likely slows down development. I know by the time I get half way into it I'll be wishing I had a faster swather.

This cold rainy weather has definitely slowed crop advancement. By the looks of the forecast our wheat should be ready to swath next week maybe.  Not sure what I’ll do yet. Swath or straight cut. See what the forecast is doing I guess and go from there. 
 

With the new genetics it definitely pays to hold off a little bit with swathing green canola I think.  Need every bushel we can get these days now it seems. 
 

could hear a spray plane going just east of the house so u went and had a look and they were doing canola. First fields around here that have been sprayed for army worms. Going to give ours a good look this afternoon again. I’ve been checking and only found a few so far.

still tinkering away here, finally got the bins cleaned/swept out  boy lots of rotten stuff this year especially around the doors 

 

but finally done, cool weather here to probably start spraying peas Monday and probably start cutting canola weds or Thursday
