2023 crop pics

Looked like spring here last night as well. Puddles everywhere and water running down the roads and through the yard. Woke up this morning and it looked like winter. Just a real slushy mess now. Hard to say how much we actually got but I'm guessing half inch of rain yesterday and 6-8 inches of snow today accumulated. Maybe a bit more. 30 miles north in the park there was all of 2 feet that fell. I guess it's winter now lol

I liked this post but I must say I’m jealous at the same time lol.  I was thinking we had around 1/2” of rain bit I went for a drive today into Melfort to pick up some parts and groceries. Safe to say it was a lot more then that. There was actually water running in the ditches and a lot of the low spots had standing water in them like a downpour in June. Talked to the guys in Melfort at Thomas motors(Polaris dealer) and they had 1.5 inches there. Heard talk of a inch in other places. Not a flake of snow fell 😢.  Grid roads were actually dry and not even icy today. Highway was wet and when I came home I could tell it was starting to freeze. Could feel it was slippery under foot while driving.

Lol yea I saw the esker club posting on Facebook last night. It’s pretty marginal up there yet I think. That’s one of the spots we normally ride this time of the year though.  Always do a Christmas/New Years ride ride around there.  
 

Wr got about a inch of snow a couple nights ago. Things are kind of white but definitely not what I’d call a white Christmas yet either. 
 

Still wrenching on my old sled.  Keeps getting more torn apart as I go it seems. Have the whole front end torn apart now. Had née ball joints to put in but the stupid things got machined to small when they made them. Now I just pressed out the other ball joint and damaged the snap ring groove in the process. Priced out a new a arm from Yamaha and it’s 570 bucks 😢. Not sure what route I’ll go yet. I may end up ordering a aftermarket ipgrade kit that I’ve been looking at. 1000 bucks for that though.😢

Not alot of snow here yet, but could likely pick and choose and go for a decent ride. Although any time a flake of snow falls there's 50 km winds right with it

No time for riding yet though. Haven't even uncovered the sleds yet. Been busy drying grain. Probably be going on that till the end of the year. Still working on the 2023 crop haha

All the corn is in the bin here since two days ago about, some little plots are left standing because of the snow drifts but I reckon them Deer need Christmas too

Thought I could change the title and just carry on but seems I don’t have that option anymore.  Figured rather then start a while new topic again I’d just rename it. Oh well just carry on as usual I guess lol.
 

Got started seeding late yesterday afternoon. Had to wait a long time to get our wheat cleaned so we’ve been delayed getting going. Finally got that home on Saturday.  Got the home quarter basically done at least so it’s a start. Ran out of nh3 with about 2 acres left 😢. Coming in the morning to fill so I won’t get it done tonight.  Seeded out what barley seed we had left over in the drill from last year yesterday and got started on wheat this morning. Lost a opener and adapter so had to make a trip to town this morning though for parts.

hah i was wondering about this thread today 

 

were rolling along aswell only a few days in so far as rain delays pushed start dates back which everyone was ok with as we were very dry, peas are in hope to finish durum today, lookin like more rain in a couple days, which will be ok aswell give a nap time and fix afew things

Great minds think alike I guess ehh lol.  Hoping the rains hold off for a bit here. Would be nice to keep rolling for a bit and get the cereals all in.

Well slowly making some headway. Small fields are all done now. Just the bigger ones left. Hoping to move out to the reserve tomorrow but the forecast doesn’t look super great tonight. Haven’t even dared look at the long term. Saw them mention snow on Facebook so hopefully that’s not the case.  Nearly got rained out today. Almost went home when I took that pic of the packers. It started to dry again just after that though and got better again so I was able to finish up that field at least.

I'm not sure what season it is around here right now. Some guys are done cereals, some haven't started yet. Some still have a good bit of combining to do. We're definitely not dry here anymore. The yard just dries up and fields are a go then it rains again. Still pretty chilly and some frosty nights up till a day ago. Saw a few snow flakes on Monday, then ice pellets, then back to rain. Seeding went from lots of time to pushing being late. Might be no action till after the long weekend the way the forecast looks

Well seedlings come to a abrupt halt here for a bit. Rained a lot overnight. At least a inch maybe more. Water laying all over the yard. Didn’t have the best of days yesterday. Got moved over to the reserve without any trouble, nicely got started and broke one of the mid row bander mounts. Had to bring the welder out to get that fixed. Mom brought the grinder but didn’t realize with the thread on wire brush the adapters for the grinding disc weren’t there so I couldn’t v it out to weld it properly. Cleaned it up and burnt it in as best as I could. It’ll hold for this year anyways.  Got going and did another 20 acres or so till I ran out of seed. Dad was just pulling in with the semi so timing was good there. Winged up to go fill and all of a sudden saw a big white puff. Thought it was nh3 at first then quickly realized I’d just blown a hydraulic hose. Was late enough by then that everyone was closed already so that was the end of the day.

Well we’re still rained out unfortunately. I got a little bit more done Sunday afternoon. Was geared up to go Monday again and saw the one walking axle was sitting kind of crooked on the drill. Thought a bearing was gone so I tore  it apart and discovered it’s just a bushing. Went to town for parts and by the time I got back it was raining again. Put it back together in the rain and brought the semi back home again. Was actually sliding around on the road a bit. This morning it was misting again and by noon it was starting to come down pretty steady. Been raining steady since then so there’s water laying all over the yard again.  Hopefully some of the others on here are having better luck.

Finished our little bit of crop today. Well not quite done. Got about 8 acres of ends to finish but ran out of seed. My brother is going to run and get some seed on Saturday to finish. We seeded soybeans this year just to keep everything simple. Have to get sprayer ready next week and burn down the field . We have our son graduating high school this weekend so have to stop and get ready for that and his state track meet on Friday.

haven't accomplished much here either rained later last week tried to go on Saturday to find the tractor dead in the field turned out battery shorted out got that fixed then got rolling till yesterday at noon rained out again sat today hopefully spray tomorrow and get drill going again calling for  rain again for Thursday night  ..... not quite half done

 

i enjoy the rain but i would like to get seeding done

First signs of life. Must’ve put the seeds in the ground the right direction again I guess lol. Took off for a few hours this afternoon and went up in the bush for a bit. Talked with a group of bear hunters that come up every year around this time. Said they saw a few nice ones.  Sask water is out camping on the riverbank again. Not sure if they’re monitoring water or sturgeon.  They camp out there in the summer and spend a lot of time down there anyways.

Finished seeding wheat on Tuesday finally. Wasn’t anymore than dry enough. Had to leave a few bits that were too wet. Went back to putting some ammonia on late Wednesday. Rained again overnight, so didn’t even try on Thursday. Today the snow has been coming down for 5 hours already, and isn’t supposed to stop anytime soon. First seeded wheat popped through on Wednesday.

Beek going hard between showers here the past week. Where we had started got over an inch of rain so packed everything up and moved to what was supposed to be the last field and started there lol. Worked our way back to the original field left for wheat and we're snowed out now lol. Lots of wet ground here. We're working everything ahead and I'm spinning lots and leaving ruts but a nice day and it dries up enough to seed through. So far not really getting more than 1 nice day though. So cold here I'd be afraid to put canola in yet anyway but some guys are going on it

been crazy weather here to by what i call my south land there the hail was so thick it was like it snowed couldn't believe it,  at my yard we were switching the drill over from canola to wheat and saw a cloud coming and thought oh a quick shower moving through ended up raining for 3 hrs at my farm the neighbors 7 miles west are seeding, started literally just at my farm and went east 

 

had 4 tenth here so long story short nothin got done today but i did find the bottom of one bench that's been accumulating junk for several years amazing how much crap a guy keeps till he realizes something got to change

Got rolling yesterday afternoon again. Had the drill full from when it rained on Monday yet so got that seeded out and went back out this morning to finish the wheat. Got moved back home and switched out for canola. Had to go in for fertilizer so most of the afternoon was shot. Just nicely got in the house now again.  Hopefully put in a good day tomorrow. With a little miracle we could be done by Sunday night if everything went perfect. We all know that doesn’t happen very often though.  Fields are still wet here. Guys are bringing out the tow straps again. Crazy how last week we could go anywhere we wanted now we have to be careful. The small field in my last picture has some pretty steep hills. One section I had to come up emoted and seed it going downhill. Just couldn’t get any traction. Coming around the one low spots I puckered you too. Just out of the blue I started spinning and going down. Came back in from a different angle and had to bail out. Wasn’t worth sinking the tractor over. 
 

I heard you guys were getting hammered with snow over there. That sucks. Hopefully things dry up and the weather starts to cooperate a bit. Starting to get a little bit late now. Not horrible yet but it’s not early anymore either unfortunately.

Finally a sunny day here but still way below normal temps. Soil conditions nearly perfect for moisture and going through many of the low spots. Could have finished canola tonight but I shut down  early as the 7130 coolant leak is getting worse. Hoping another shot of irontite will patch it up good enough to finish seeding. Head gasket leak which is  a major repair from the looks of it.

Trucks have been white with frost for 2 hours now. Suns burning it off now but it’s still chilly out there 😢. Hopefully it doesn’t hurt the barley. Wheat should be ok but barley seems more sensitive.

It’s supposed to get to 82* here today. We are going to plant today ahead of a storm they are calling for tonight. It has been very wet here. There’s still quite a bit left to plant, which is unusual. Planting is usually pretty well wrapped up by now. It’s very unusual for corn to not be done, but it’s not. The corn is late.
