Addition to the herd today

Recommended Posts

Brought home a new worker today.  MTX 120.

Just over 3,100 hrs, seems like it has had a pretty easy life so far.  Supposedly on used for light work, auger, sprayer, etc.  Drawbar hole was still perfectly round.

Has the 6.7 Iveco engine in it.  Never heard such a quiet 6 cylinder.

Other than it saying there is an error code on it, works like a charm, lots of power to pull around the discs.  Tires aren't loaded and don't have duals on.  Will likely add the duals, just to be safe in those untitled fields?

Didn't have time to tonight, but want to see if the IH suit case weights will fit it or not, be nice if they did.

Think it might have to be MX style weights on there ? I might have a book for that tractor, don't remember if it's parts or service. I just saw it today looking for another book....

Friend had an mtx135.  It was a very good tractor for him.  I believe it had the same engine.  Yours looks a little newer by the decals.

Weight bracket looks different than what my CIH MX135 has -- hard to tell as the MTX weight bracket is hard to see in the pictures.  Looks to be a unit from about the end of the run of MTX that had the CIH MX design sheet metal.  Pretty sure the last of the MTX had redesigned sheet metal -- but maybe it wasn’t even an MTX anymore.  I do know ARGO sold the original CIH MX Maxxum design to the Russian KAMAZ company.

From what I seen on line I was thinking it was a 2007, going by ads and comparing decal styles.  Got a few minutes to look through the owners manual last night before falling asleep on couch with book in hand.  It says its for 2008 and newer ?   Need to find a place to compare serial number (once I find the plate) and a listing, hopefully somewhere on the WWW?

Father was impressed with it, he has a Maxxum 110, said this one is WAY quieter than his.  Although he did point out that his jump seat was much more comfortable. 🙄

Did ya order it from the dealer or online?  I'd like to get a service book for it, especially since it has way more electronics on it than I'm used to.

Did you trade your 3688 in?

Nope, I still have it for now.  Like to fix it so it shifts correctly.  Then after that - not sure.

Will likely add the duals,

That is really tough on flange axles....have replaced more than one due to flange breaking.

These tractors not built strong enough to have regular snap on duals attached??

In the CaseIH world we've certainly had problems breaking the flange running snap on duals. Maybe McCormick beefed them up some in that area. For sure you would probably need to run lower than normal air pressure in outside tires.

So far, this one doesn't display any sort of guttlessness, seems to have all kinds of power.  Can't get over it actually.   Seems like a nice engine so far?

We got a MX 135 last December and it has lots of power compared to the McCormick we had . I can't claim it has twice the torque etc as twice of nothing is nothing 😁

I have an MX135 and it pulls real well for its rating.  The MX135 was the only model in the small frame line to get the aneroid on the pump.

The Maxxum 110 is a structural engine tractor, so the engine is bolted solid to the transmission.  Your MTX has a fully iso mounted engine.  Years ago I owned a New Holland TM120 and was rather disappointed by the noise level in the cab compared to my MX135.  Same deal though.  Structural engine vs iso mounted engine.

I had a Mc102 with the exact name pretty sure my 684 would out pull it. But with the 6.7 should be ok . I don’t aim to own another Perkins.
