Recommended Posts

Looks to be. I can only find one picture online and it's from the rear. It came with 2 braces one of which goes forward it's the one I can't figure out. Thanks

This belongs to an old timer neighbor of mine, he had me put it on craigslist a while ago, that’s the only terrible picture of it I have on my phone. He has all of the pieces off of the tractor he bought new. If I can get a hold of him tonight I’ll ask him to explain how it goes

This is a little off-topic, but what is the purpose of a hillside hitch? Sorry for my ignorance but just not something that's common in my area, hilly though it is.

My guess it’s I think it’s to move the hitch towards the up hill side so the implement trails directly behind you.  But I’m with you because we have hills in our area.  Enough hills that some guys back in the day bought hillside combines.  Still I’ve never seen a hillside hitch in person.

Thanks for the info! As I said earlier, they just weren't common around this area. Then again, most guys never had a tractor much bigger than an A or C during that time period.

Would anyone have Part #3 in the picture? Thanks

I don't think I have a spare, I can make a sketch of one if you want to make it. not too difficult of you have a drill press and torch

All the Farmalls I have used from a 656 on down have had that ‘swinging drawbar’. Only difference is all had the drawbar under the ‘U’ bracket, and a ‘roller’ instead of the short plate holding the drawbar up.

We have several tractors that have these on. I remember at one of the red power roundups at Bloomsburg someone saying they never saw one of them and didn't understand it's purpose.  very handy for more than just plowing on some of our steeper slopes.

A rough sketch or measurement would be amazing thank you

Just a point of interest: plowing contest guys will use sidehill hitches (or landing levers) when competing in a plowing contest.  If you can perceive that you are not on level ground, the plow WILL slide down hill, so you need a sidehill hitch to keep the front bottom plowing the correct width.

Also, we will use the sidehill hitch to intentionally plow with the front bottom not at the correct width in order to get the finish (or dead furrow) to come out correct.  Using a two bottom plow, when there is one round left we want three furrow widths left to plow (basically, there is another minutiae to consider) to a tolerance of +/- 1 inch.  Any more than that and the judges can see that the two sides of your plot are not parallel.  So, we'll use the sidehill hitch to plow a little narrow or a little wide to hit that desired measurement.

And, I've found the IH factory side hill hitch to be too coarse.  One notch equals about 1" of horizontal movement, which is too much.  I plowed an entire contest squeezing the handle to hold it between two notches.  I went back to my home-made sidehill hitch which has finer adjustment.

OK, I hope this makes sense to you, feel free to ask questions if its missing a dimension or clarity.

The spacer that goes in one of the 3 one inch holes is just a piece of pipe on this one,( not original) you may want to machine a nice spacer or find a piece of DOM

I would have to put the twist in first before cutting to length and drilling holes. I would never be able to calculate how much the twist will shorten it. If it even matters.

I suggested that in my orig post and took that part out because someone would disagree, I would make the flatbar extra long and twist then cut as you suggest.
