Reichow7120
This truck is for sale at a auction in the area Wednesday. Gasser, 5 speed with 2 speed axle. Hasn't been used in 15 plus years but kept inside. 1979 model. They were working on it this weekend to get it running but i don't know if they succeeded or not We are wondering about it for running from the field to the bins when the semi is tied up hauling out of the bins. Give the Brent garavity wagon a hand. Just wondering how far you guys would go bidding
mikem
If it hasn't been used for 15 years, I would be VERY LEERY of the brakes.............. Some of the brake parts are getting hard to find. I had a terrible time finding a brake booster. Finally had to get mine rebuilt locally. If they say at the auction, "brakes need work", I would walk. Just my opinion. Big Bud guy
It’s older but I gave $5,000 for the one in my other post. Brakes work too.
iowaboy1965
Looks like a solid old truck..depends on lot of things. Also depends on how much time or effort your willing to invest in it if it doesn't run or stop when you get it.
rustred
the question is how far would you go bidding ?

But anything with air brakes with a gas engine is going to run 10 to 15 grand currently. Diesel, old and needs work is going to run you towards 20 grand and better condition keeps going up from there. Probably go for more than we want to pay. Just not wanting to pay big bucks for what it might get used. Hauling spray and seed in the spring. Grain short distances in the fall
jimw
Brakes ? You don’t need no stinking brakes

Binderoid
The brakes would be less of a problem than that horrible T-495 transmission... or 496, I can’t remember. The one with reverse all the way left and down. If you can get under it, one of the standard updates was a street 90 in the filler hole to raise the oil level; and 50W motor oil in the trans. Miles on that truck won’t really tell you anything, they just don’t stay together... unless the 446 is just too much for it.
Cummings1486
Looks like a nice shape truck with a nice bed. I’m going to say 5 to 8 .Air brakes can be worked on but those hydraulic brakes are horrible. Diesels definitely bring more and even gassers with that are live tandems and decent shape will be in the 10 range
jeeper61
What’s it got for an engine? SV or MV?
bitty
I have no idea how they are bringing more than 4-5000 for a gas job. Around here they are not bringing very much unless it's diesel. Here with our hills they would be slower than a turtle going up and scary to decend the hill
Cdfarabaugh
If it has hydraulic disc brakes I wouldnt hesitate a bit. Cousin has that identical truck but an '81 and it has hydro boost disc brakes that are good as anything on the market now. Not sure when IH switched from hydrovac drum to disc though

Not saying you are wrong but reality is if you need a truck to haul grain and you don't want to sink 60 Grand plus into one. These will work. Like i said. Not a primary grain mover with the semi truck around. Just a supplement. No guarantee we will buy it either

Cdfarabaugh
W** is wrong with people at these auctions. My best guess is must be a LOT of boomer generation money that has saved up being unloaded on this stuff.

TractormanMike.mb
I saw that about five years ago here. I went to a local farm auction that was held about this time for a farmer who had passed away from an illness, he had scheduled the auction months prior but unfortunately passed a week or so before. We don't have many farm auctions around here anymore, our local FFA chapter has an annual consignment auction so most of the smaller operators liquidate their equipment there. This auction was also the first one of the year. I could not believe what some of the equipment was bringing. The equipment that the guy used was in useable condition but could use some love, all of it brought higher prices than I expected. There were two rows of equipment that the guys who set up the auction basically pulled every piece that was sitting in a fence row or bone yard. Stuff like old wagon gears with frozen hubs and flat or missing tires, old tillage equipment, ect. All of it sold, I talked to a local scrap guy and he said that he planned on buying most of those rows for scrap but it all sold too high for what he could haul it for.
