Just picked this up today from my neighbor.  1977 Loadstar 1700 with a 404.  Hi is father bought it new. He is same neighbor I’ve mentioned in here 100 times who is retired.  Same guy who I got the 715 combine from which I think is also from 1977.  He casually mentioned he would like to see this truck and his old combine together this fall

Nice truck it is a Sundance truck also isn’t it? A picture of inside of dash would tell. I posted to soon it has the body color fram and hubs so it is.

Nice looking truck.  I have a little brother to it out here, no tag axle.  Mine shows 165,000 mile and odometer has never worked since I got in 2000ish. Last  hauled 2 loads of grain in 2016.  Since it has been on water truck duty.  But since my new well has been good over 2 years since it moved. Truck and 404 engine have treaded me very well for buying it from a equipment jokey.

Yes it is.  Seems like it said Sundance inside on the dash somewhere.

This shows 102,000 miles and it works.

Real tandem? Or a tag?

Our 1600 345 4 and 2 speed avg about 5 mpg hauling into town on a above 32 * day so they weren’t idling much. 33 mile round trip took 7 to 9 gals of gas. We usually just used the back seat tank at the end of their usage. Filled gas every trip or every other trip at pump in town. We wouldn’t keep any gas at farm, you had to many relatives think it was a free fill up.

I imagine that's a pretty conservative estimate on the amount of fuel that has been through there.

I agree.  I burned almost a quarter of a tank just driving it home from town about 35 miles.

Nice truck!

Here's some original info from the factory.

I have a Dancer 1600 in the livery of the one in the picture. Sundancer decal is gone from the glovebox door but you can still see the outline in the remaining glue.

It is 40 +/-  miles round trip here, by the meter on my gravity tank 7 gal would fill it up  hauling 26-27,000 gross.  So just over 5 MPG. The one way has 2 good hills to pull, right on up in 2nd.  The old Chevy with a 350 you generally got into low.  The Ford with a y block was the same and a little less load.

The Loadstar was the only 5 speed and the only power steering. But the other were a 60 and 58 models.

Boy the 446 isn’t as bad as I thought it was. 45 miles loaded, 45 miles empty on 25 gallons... still have enough left on the bottom when I got home to go find a gas station.

My 74 loadstar (345, 5+2) used to get over 10 MPG unloaded or light loaded on highway trips. Sometimes I would take her across the state to pick up supplies, equipment, etc.

She's not in good enough shape to get on the highway anymore. The 75 I bought a few years ago has low gears. Great around the farm but screams at 50 MPH. She's a little thirsty...

This one tops out at around 50 mph in high and 35 in low.  Built to haul but not cruise.
