This is a bucket list tractor for me.  Let's see yours!

Sorry I can't add much to this topic.  But also a bucket list tractor for me, 766 diesel with deluxe cab.

A few pics I have. Always liked the 766. Came very close to owning one once but it didn’t work out.

766 was the last Farmall Gas Tractor Produced To My knowledge. I have one for my yard tractor and it is a great starting little rascal

I drooled over the one with the cab at Ohio RPRU too!!!!   It was sweet!

The 6's and 7's are strangely appealing to me for some reason....

Saw a really sweet 756 wheatland with ice cream box cab at WI RPRU too.....super sweet!

I had a 766 (diesel, wide front, fenders) for a few weeks about 25 years ago. I bought it with a frozen - broken block and TA out. My friend at the salvage yard bought it from me. He installed a D466, deleted the TA and sold it to my friend's brother.

Later I had the chance to buy another but didn't. It was originally a narrow front cab tractor. The cab had been removed and replaced a homemade rops and MF fenders. An 806 style wide front axle had been put in place of the NF. It was cobbled up and the TA slipped! At least the engine was good...

Now I have two 886 (one running, one not) and a 826. Don't really need a 766...

Thx-Ace

I hope to own one someday.

On DVD 15 from Farmington Implement there is a 766 film from 1973 that’s seven minutes long. The film is mostly about the new diesel engine on the 766. Since seeing that the 766 has been a favorite of mine.

Here's mine, 20230414_135038.thumb.jpg.a69301e3a9d3e947985d21157acbdd58.jpg engine is bad...sat so long before I got it now the whole fuel system is junk also. Not sure what to do with it 🤔

Being a Black-Stripe, I'd find an engine and put her back to work.

That's my plan in the future. It's a really late serial number. Do you know if a 966 fuel tank is the same as the 766? I know of an independent mechanic that parted out a 966. I'm thinking fuel lines are 766 only because of shorter engine placement.

Pretty sure the 766 and 966 both had a 37 gallon tank.

Is that an actual Blackstripe? Looks like serial tag is on the bell housing.

Yes it is. A late ‘75. I’ve been collecting late ‘75 black stripe 66’s. Kind of hard to find anymore. This is one is SN-16588.  Makes it the 47th black stripe built.

Had a customer come in this morning for some Viscosity Oil, he handed me 3 crisp brochures one for 454 & 574 and one for 7,9,10, & 1466 tractors. Just looked and yep both 7&9 had 37 gallon tanks. While 10 & 14 have 42 gallon tanks. Brochure even has the "Automatic weight transfer" hitch shown that was discussed earlier.

Mom and dad have had 2. First one was bought in 87 and was very nice. 2 post rops with canopy and big rubber all around. Some disagreements not long after and with no shed for it they sold it. In about 97 or 98 they bought the one we currently have. 73 model with just shy of 10k hours. Been a great machine for us.

It's a diesel. I HIGHLY doubt the fuel system is junk..... $800 should have the injectors in tip top shape. Plunger might be stuck in pump, if not then it's just clean out lines and new filters. Diesels are very forgiving to sitting.

What's wrong with the motor?  360's are easy to fix and find.

766 - the little big tractor.

I've posted these pics multiple times, but here they are again - my '73 766.  Dad breaking it in with a 4-16 710 plow, with me after adding the ROPS, and once more in the late '80s after my FIL bought it from me.

After we had the T04 installed, it would run all day long with a stock 1066 or 4440, and stay cool doing it.  Ran it at 13,000 lb. without duals.

Soy based fuel is the major problem here. Used a 4 foot pipe wrench to get the fuel cap off. After that I poked through the algae to get to the thick stinky rotten fuel. Removed the main fuel line that is jammed packed full of rust. Tried to get the fuel out of the tank and it's so thick and rusty it would even run. The engine had antifreeze in the oil. Previous owner removed the oil cooler and set it in the cab. He had another mechanic tell him it was sleeve cavitation. Then decided not to fix it and parked it outside for 10 years with nothing covering the exhaust. The engine is locked up tight. I bought it cheap. After messing with these problems I just decided to push it in my shed and work on it later. The 856 and 1206 are before the 766. I agree, it is repairable. Plans are to remove cab and add fenders after I get it running again.
