ny bill o
I know where there is a New Idea 2 row mounted corn picker going to be sold, it was on a Farmall 460. Will it work with the same mounts to put it on my 560? Or are the tractor frames different?
brewcrew
The 460 frame sucks in at the rear to match the smaller bell housing. But most IH mounts would have been made for a universal fit, and used spacers to fill the gap. But the actual frame rails are the same width.
Matt Kirsch
The 460 and 560 Farmalls are dimensionally identical from about 4" ahead of the bell housing forward. Don't these pickers mount to the front frame rails and the axle housings? If so you're golden. H's and M's, and consequently 460's and 560's, have the same rear axle housing mounting dimensions.
cedar farm
It will work. I have one and debated to put it on my 460 or 560. Ended up on the 560 as the power steering was a little better. I have some pictures of mounting the cradle. You have to remove the fast hitch.
cedar farm
I should add. With the 16.9 tires, I had to move the wheels out flush to the end of the axle.
ny bill o
I looked at the picker today. it will have to be super cheap to even think of bidding on it. Take 2 men a couple days to dig it out of corner its in. And I plant 30" rows. Will it even do 30? or need something wider spacing? Its just for play anyway. Pretty sure those pickers are 36-44 inch rows at the narrowest. we had one that I used on a 460 and I want to say it was planted on 38 and it was getting tight

I think the 227 was set on 40-inch rows, but you only had to bend each row over 5" to make it work, so the picker was alright. What was tight was the tractor tire getting into the rows beside it....as long as the "planter guy" didn't falter it was ok, but it was tight.

Yeah the planter guy got off a little on some of our rows and the shields over the rear tire were having to bend the rows out. The new idea didn't have the stoutest of supports for that shield and ours broke from the corn stalks pushing on it and got into the to tire. So I don't know how long the support on a new idea would hold going down 30 inch rows constantly. I don't see the snapping units having any trouble.
