Caseihtecher
Thought it would be cool to start a thread where I could post pictures from work or some of the projects I'm messing with at work. I'm new "ish" to red power magazine but have been working at a dealer for 10 years now as a mechanic. No I don't know everything but I'm trying to learn as much as possible. If you have questions, ask, if you have advice, give it. Just enjoy the pictures that I have to show, or whatever I have to talk about. 😁
Caseihtecher
Started last week working on a 5288 IH that customer was complaining about. Developed a ticking noise in the transmission in every gear after park brake engaged while on the move. Pulled park pawl cover and had found the obvious, Constant running gear on the pinion shaft (park pawl gear) had a tooth knocked off and the rest roughed up. Took a while to find a good gear. Couldn't find anything good used so we ended up getting a new one from TriplerRTractors. (Which I believe is 88seriesrestorer or something like that?) Also since the customer ran last fall with it the way it was, It did a little damage to the gear on the end of the range countershaft as well. So basically got it split, range housing off, stripped down and cleaned out. Getting gears replaced, new master clutch pack, new oil and filters, and it'll be good to go.

Caseihtecher
Well today got the range housing finished up and hung back up on the rear. Also got the new pads and plates in the master clutch and it reinstalled. Which by the way if you need them, buy plates from A&I. That's where Case Ih gets the from.. learned that the hard way.. anyways got the valves hung up and started throwing lines back on. Should be ready for the pump drive and pumps. Then should be ready to roll it back together. Of course that'll wait till Monday. Now hopefully I'll get sometime this weekend to work on the H.

Not a bad job, when you love what ya do, everything is fun.......!! To me the thing I hate the most is, prepping tractors for repairs. Bring it in shop and drain, remove tanks, steps, sheet metal, floor plates an etc... then head to wash bay. I am a CLEAN freak, everything has to be washed, keeps shop so much cleaner and makes the job easier to do. Looks like you like clean too. We take in a lot of walk-in jobs. Hydro motors & pumps, starters & alternators, cylinder heads, injection pumps & injectors. It amazes me that people will remove (said) item wrap it in a dirty feed bag and bring it in to shop. Why wrap it in dirty feed bag I'll never know? Since we purchased the local injection pump shop, I plan to quit working hydro pumps & motors unless we have the complete machine. Complete machine will allow us to test and confirm failure before randomly condemning a component. Seems like too many are condemned based on the neighbor or friends experience with their machine. 4

Well I love what I do.. but I'm not going to say I love everything that I do, or everything that I work on 😅 I'm not going to say I'm a clean freak, but I prefer to have things clean. I understand in this industry it's hard to get everything totally clean. But I promise you it will definitely be clean going back together. Plus most of the time I try to collect any dirt that these things drop to fill holes in my yard at home. 😆 One reason I like working on scraper tractors. Dirty feed bags or an old shirt that looks like its been used to clean everything.. Sounds like you have a really nice set up then.
Caseihtecher
Well I was the only one in the shop today. Everyone else called in sick. Made some progress on the 5288. Got everything on the range buttoned up and got it rolled back together. Started hooking everything back up. Should be about done tomorrow I hope, as long as I don't have to many interruptions that is. Getting more work lined up. Got a mx285 I need to replace the exhaust manifold and gaskets on. Also got a 4440 patriot sprayer that I need to do some work on as well. We will see what I get done this week.

Caseihtecher
Well almost had it finished yesterday but didn't quite make it. Been helping another tech with a front end on Mx285. Front end was pretty loose but we got it tightened up now. 👍Of course it has a full set of weights on the front and no duals.. but anyways 5288 is done as of today. Only problem I ran into was an oil leak on a remote valve. #2 remote was leaking out the flow control stem. Pretty quick and easy fix. Took it out to wash up and for a test run and all is checking out. I'll most likely call customer tomorrow morning. We will see what we can find to mess with next.

Caseihtecher
Well yesterday I spent most of the day trying to get little odds an ends done in the shop. Mostly catching up with some lawnmower work. Yes I get to help with those time to time. 🙄 Anyways besides that I got that cylinder on that sprayer pulled off and rebuilt. Also had a hose on it that was rubbing that I had to replace and try to get it to atop running. Spent most of the day out in the field replacing an exhaust manifold on a Mx285. It's a good thing too because it was broke. And also had to rebuild a hitch cylinder. Which was rebuilt on the tractor do to Case Ih's wonderful design of putting pins into blind holes with no anti-sieze.. would it really cost much to use some of this stuff when things are being built?
756puller
I've always had good luck driving an air hammer bit in the bottom pin to get it broke loose and out

But it's just as easy to get the top one out and tip it back.
Caseihtecher
Well today has been kinda slow. Waiting on parts for a couple jobs out in the field that I went and looked at yesterday. One was a 540 Steiger that I had to order a starter for, which is going to be fun to replace. The other was a 550 Quadtrac that needed a hydraulic hose replaced, CCV replaced, and checked over. I had to order a sensor for the engine because it had a fault code that kept coming up. Luckily its just the sensor. Besides that I had a steering cylinder and brake valve dropped off at the shop off a 2594 Case. Got the cylinder rebuilt, but had to get some parts for the brake valve. Stems were pitted terribly. It's no wonder it was leaking. Also spent have the day replacing bulbs in our sign out front. At our shop your more of a handy man then a mechanic. 😆
Caseihtecher
Well I'm getting to enjoy the nice Missouri weather today out and about.(before the storm weather) started out this morning working on MXM130 replacing an A/C hose and receiver/drier due to a major leak. Got that fixed and charged up. Though something still doesn't seem right, but I'll look into that when I get back to the shop. Got my starter replaced on that 540 steiger.. Boy that was something, let me tell you what.. I don't think they can cram anymore stuff in there. And Got the engine sensor replace on the 550 Quad and got that straightened out. Along with running it around and getting the transmission calibrated. Finished off the day checking out a Stx440 that wouldnt move. Ended up just needing some clutch pedal sensors adjusted.
MN Nice
Would you happen to have any opi ions on a 2015 Case IH Farmall 45C CVT? We're looking for a new tractor and haven't had a cvt before.

I want to say they are similar to the D and DX model lines and the were pretty decent tractors.
Caseihtecher
Alright so today started out working on some lawn mowers and school buses. 🤮 yes we work on buses, we've done it for the school district ever since when we used to be an Ih truck and tractor dealer. But this afternoon I got to go out on a 580 Quad to check out and charge a/c. And replace some wonderful remote levers on a 540 steiger. If I feel healthy enough to go to work tomorrow I need to get some more running around done.
Caseihtecher
Well got some more knocked out in the last couple days. Replaced yet another remote lever on another 540 QT. Went out on a 335 and 385 Steiger that believe it or not they both had the same issue. Neither tractor would shift while moving, but if you push in the clutch you can change which gear you start out at up to 8th gear. Their are two possible causes. Either 1 of the 4 transmission speed sensors are messed up, or clutch pedal position sensor doesn't show the clutch pedal position all the way up. The 335 just needed the clutch pedal sensor recalibrated, as for the 385 I'm not sure. It kind of fixed it self while I was checking it out. 🤷 I also went out on a 450 QT for the wonderful "SCR Failure" screaming at the customer. Luckily it was only an expensive NOX sensor. And I finishes today off replacing the blower motor in a 315 Magnum due to the customer not appreciating the way it was howling.
Caseihtecher
Well had to go back out on the 450 QT for the Nox sensor issue. Ended up actually having the nox sensor relay being faulty. Of course it didn't show it self the first time I was out there and customer wanted me to just throw a sensor on and go 🤷. But it's fixed now. Also went out on a 335 steiger for a hydraulic oil leak. Had a pipe at the pfc pump cracked. I got it off and they welded it and we had it back going again. Also had to update engine software on a 580 steiger due to it repeatedly saying the fuel filters were restricted. (Fault code 3454 for plausible sensor failure) Tomorrow maybe going out on a 540 steiger for high intake Temps, And a 9170 for a locked up dash and won't move. (Dash all 8s) so we will see how that goes.
