sandhiller
So, I am sitting here doing a slow burn waiting for a call back from SAM.gov to validate my entity for VFD because they changed the way they store info. (don't even ask, been at it a month) Rant recanted Damn scammer and I replied in my best tombstone voice I feel better Thank you Rant off TV is just something I leave on for Cash to watch while I'm gone. Maybe I can get Dr Pol on one of the free tv services on firestick or something, Cash will survive.🤠
Gillfisher
Sorry, but i hear you. I'm in Canada, and you cant get any service over the phone with English that i can understand. Now iI ask for someone who can speak French. If you get someone that speaks French, they can speak better English to me. i just cant understand alot of the oversees ENGRISH.
brahamfireman
Cut the cord over a year ago, wife was the hold out. I've moved onto smart TV and roku receivers, we stream everything. Nothing worth watching on the TV any more anyway. The first step is the scariest, one week in and you'll have figured out what you like and will wonder why you ever paid for cable or dish!!!! 5

Only subscribed to cable in college (split between 4 people) and a little while after college mainly to watch sports. Well turns out when you have a full time job there's a lot less sports watching time to be had so we killed cable and saved a bunch of money each month and never really missed it. Fast forward to about 5 years ago when we got a Roku receiver and the kids thought they set the world on fire with how many options there are. There's options with streaming to subscribe to just the channels you want and not the ones you don't. The only limitation is going to be your internet connection.
1256pickett
I refuse to pay to watch tv. Had antenna on the roof that got 3-5 channels for long time. About 10 years ago the stupid digital signal killed that. Got Wi-Fi couple years later and now only thing I watch is YouTube. Those 15 minute videos are great for my attention span.

sandhiller
Wife just told me it was a scam. I fell for it sort of but didn't give them any information they could use against me. Change my rant to against scum who are too damn lazy to get a honest job. Think I'll get rid of the dish anyway. Youngest son has a ton of old and new westerns on DVD. May do the fire stick Roku deal. Only free tv. With the Star link internet we can stream. I dunno. Just feel stupid for getting fooled . TractormanMike.mb
When we moved into this house over ten years ago I said I would not put a dish on this house, I would not spend money on a dying technology. We are blessed with good internet here so we stream everything. Netflix, hulu, YouTube, Amazon prime, and some others, not all at the same time, if we get sick of what's on one we will switch to another to change things up. I'm not a sports guy so I don't care about live sports. To be honest, I don't watch much if any tv anymore.

lotsaIHCs
We had land line, tv and internet all through our friendly local telecom co-op. We decided to end the tv part because it was just getting too expensive. We went with Roku. In the telecom company's little brochure on faqs it said that people wouldn't be penalized if we drop portions of our service. When we got our next bill, our savings was only about $10 or $20. TV was over $100 a month. Called the company and asked why I was being penalized. They said that I wasn't and the reason my other services got more expensive was because I broke up the bundle, but it wasn't a penalty. So much for the consumer-friendly co-op. I also recently learned that they don't pay dividends until you die. They then pay your lifetime dividends to your estate. How about paying dividends to the guy paying the bill??? Ok off my soap box. Carry on. Didn't mean to hijack the thread!

Alan Dinan
We have crappy internet here, wife had to get a jet pack from Verizon for work. We do the free tv, haven’t paid for cable in 15 years. We get about 10 channels, Grit is a mainstay for me.
mmi
In our mo bills tier 1 govt 2.5x in the lead. 2 ins 3 media/bundle as only option (house "wired") 4 other 5 food We have reduced the "bundle " 5x from $325 +-mo to ($175)... $225 AGAIN + 4 sections/layers of "owned" devices. It is down to 4 items cut able, ($50 mo govt variable not removable))any 1 item will reduce the BILL $6 to a max of $10 mo.......Any !!! change breaks the "bundle" and !!! the "grandfather cap" Isp was charging the $175 just for starter "bussiness" limited internet ONLY,so many dumped it they are down to tease of $38 mo unlimited They constantly mess with the firmware in the "owned " devices, Are unreachable (obviously during said malfunction) when reached in hindia ,once picked up ,then 2-3 hrs they play from the script,,,, say again in "AMERICAN" !!!! "everything is PERFECT on our end from hindia", "owned" devices are at fault you need to RENT them. Would like to find an alternative, but paying $175 mo for "limited/throttled internet " connection, then myriad of other poor, over priced, no support device/providers, is $250 to start.

sandhiller
Thank you for the responses gentlemen. We have Starlink now and it is great! If you are thinking about it, quit thinking and get it! They even lowered our monthly bill from $110 to $90 because we are in a low usage area. Wife is going to Dr visit with DIL tomorrow for baby checkup. Second grandchild getting real close. So she will pick up a couple ROKU's Thanks again guys, can't wait to turn the 📡 into a bird bath😄

But once I got used to the remote and how the system worked I was hooked. I think we have about 12 different free channels. Each channel has hundreds of tv shows, movies and live channels within them. Some have a lot of the same content as others except for a few different shows and channels within the channels. Tubi, FreeVee, Roku, Pluto, Movieland, and others all have free television and movies accessible through the Roku system. Super nice to watch something, stop for a day or two, and pick up right where you left off without waiting for it to come back on the network schedule.

I’ve not seen a movie from start to finish in many years and I have zero regularly watched tv shows. Streaming works well for me, now that fiber is here. YouTube is my nightly hour or so of tv, and my hour plus commute audio off the phone each way on the Mercury Marquis radio.

The guy walks up to anything and learns instantly and performs. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want an e-car, but Elon probably makes some good ones. But Starlink is solving broadband like crazy all over the globe. Grandchildren are probably the best entertainment of all.

Best dive sight on Curacao is the one called “ Car pile”. Every few years they gather up all the old derelict cars and trucks , remove oil and other unfriendly items, load em onto a barge and dump em in the ocean . Millions of fish and assorted marine life gather around and call it home. Best night dive on the island.
