1872 Information

I know very little about cub cadets so enlighten me if you can.  I found an 1872 for sale locally.  It's a package deal with a 122 which doesn't really interest me.  What is the 1872 comparable to?  Appearance wise it looks like the red 82 series tractors.  I've seen a few people on the web refer to them as a "Super" so is this comparable to a 982?  But I've also seen that they have a Kohler 18hp engine so maybe it's more like a 782?  Thanks in advance.

Yes it's comparable to the 982 in that it has the super frame (6 inches longer) but yes it has the 18 hp kohler. A 2072 would be more direct comparison I suppose with the 20 hp kohler. They are 82 series with white and yellow paint and whatever else mtd changed as far as wiring ect. But I think parts are pretty interchangeable. I've been watching for a super close to me at a reasonable price but hasn't been much lately.

Buy em both and sell the 122

I would add the supers usually have individual wheel brakes tho I understand it was optional. Some have a 2nd hyd outlet for hyd angle blade they also have power steering so are nice on a snow blower. The longer frame was so the 60 haban deck would fit tho some have the 50 c deck. At least that's how I understand em. Others can confirm or correct anything I may be a bit off on.

The ad didn't give much information, but based on the pictures it does have individual brakes.  Also appears to have power steering as I see a cylinder running parallel to the frame on the left side.  The ad says it has a 60" deck although it isn't pictured.  It appears to have 2 levers on the left side of the steering wheel, so I assume it has the 2nd hyd. outlet.

Thanks for all the information.  I've always wanted a 982 but maybe i will settle for this.  As you mentioned I'd probably sell the 122 which would help justify the price.

I saw the ad you were looking at.  Price seems inline.    The front tires are almost 100 a piece plus rears.  You are around 4-500$ just in rubber.   The 122 is probably only worth 2-300 if it runs.   The 1872 is basically a 982 with a 18hp kohler and power steering which is an upgrade.   There are other differences but minor.

SON & I went to an action about 1999 that had a 2072 with fairly low hours, 50" deck with about 6 sets of blades and a snow blower. All I was interested in was the tractor & mower. A scalper was bidding against me, he must have had a buyer lined up. Think it sold around $3500. I bought my 982 & 50C deck a year later, I really wish I'd gotten a 1872 or 2072 for the power steering. The Kohler engine would have been a real reliability improvement over the Onan in the 982.

I'm missing the 122 in my Cub Cadet "12" collection.  Whereabouts would this be located?

The 122 is the gear drive version of the 12 HP 123 hydro.  I would watch on Facebook marketplace or Craigslist.   You could also place a wanted add in Red Power Magazine.

I was asking where it  is, as in physical location and if it is close to me.  The OP said he didn't want it and would probably sell it.  I have all but 3 of the 120 series of Cub Cadets.  I have the 123, 124, 125, 126 and 129.  I don't have a 122, 127 or 128.
