Mac I'm kind of surprised as to the number of 856 gas tractors sold in this region. Sold new as they had area dealer stickers on them. A few years ago it seemed like there was an 856 turning up at an auction every month. Now I don't see any. Mac Around here most farms were looking for a tractor to pull a 5 bottom plow. A lot of 856 and 966 tractors sold. By 1980 the sky was the limit. I am thinking 15 horsepower less than the stock diesel. Most diesels are turned up..... Nice for winter weather when you need them to start. Mine spent most of its life wearing a loader. brahamfireman Posted February 9 Share Posted February 9 My 856 custom that I bought from a widow 1 mile away. It had a factory turbo set up put on it many, many years ago. I did alot of little things to it to make it as close to original as possible. Yes on the 966, for years worked with our neighbor with dads 856 & their 966. I prefered dads 8 over their 9.
