What did you do with your Red tractor today?

Not so much doing with as doing to the red tractor today. Tuesday last week the tree farm I help at texted there was problems with the Mx90c they have. Said he thinks it blew a rad hose, heard a pop a steam every where. I stopped on my way home from work. I found the rad blown open at the plastic top tank. Told them it’s not a blown hose. Those were all fine. I was thinking it’s not supposed to be like that antique tractor (the model escapes me) that had evaporative cooling. I remember seeing one at a show watching the water fall down over the cooling fins or something like that. IMG_2804.thumb.jpeg.3a4733d99d224cc2476c26127a0627b6.jpeg

IMG_2814.thumb.jpeg.2d479da304f5e10a3a0cc1581c711e15.jpegI helped them get the parts we needed ordered. They got the parts late last week. Today I started the repairs. I was able to get the old one out and the new one in. Have a few brackets for the ac/ condenser, hyd cooler, and fuel cooler to put back on yet. But it’s holding coolant now. So that’s good. I should be able to wrap it up tomorrow after work.

P

I'm planting beans with the 826/900 plate planter (3pt).

Wife on the 886 with bed conditioner. Not that hard to pull but it's heavy on back!

Put the Herd seeder on the 300 in preparation for broadcasting some urea on the corn. Did the shed shuffle and moved some things around as well. Sat on the patio with a cold beverage afterwards and contemplated cutting hay in a couple weeks, and the sorry state the hay crop is currently in. It's almost not worth cutting.

I have some hay to cut also, but have been dragging my feet due to the wet weather.  Leaving on vacation in a week so I'm afraid it's going to have to wait until we get back.

Is there a reason you couldn't cut that 1st?

As he mentioned in his reply the dead rye provides a good canopy to control weed germination.

MTA needed a rear rim.  My friend Bob is having his MTA restored before the Roundup next month.  He is using new tires and rims and sold me his old ones.  Drove over to the Farmall Shop in Marengo Saturday morning to pick them up.  Also purchased 5 gallons of Viscosity Hy Tran.

Today, I resumed work on the MTA.  Finally cleaned the fuel system and with the carb rebuild I performed last fall, the MTA fired up and ran well.  Drove it over by the shop and Dad and I changed out the right rear tire that calcium had destroyed. Now some cleaning and detailing and it is ready for the Roundup in Spencer next month.

Progress on Bob's MTA.  20240525_115000.thumb.jpg.624e2c40833241152c94f53a6fff7b7e.jpg20240525_114924.thumb.jpg.d6b6afe2848076efe3f3c010728a2fd9.jpg

Todd at the Farmall Shop sells Viscosity?  I've bought from him at shows but never been to the shop.  I'd like to find a source for Viscosity oil relatively close, may have to go there sometime.

Bring your own 5 gallon buckets to fill.  Cost me $19./ gallon.  They pump it out of a drum.   Can also purchase a full drum.

Good to know....I should have asked sooner.  Saturday I changed oil in the 656 and topped off the Hy Tran.  I popped the lid off of my empty 5 gal. pail as our CIH dealership no longer refills pails from their bulk oil system, you have to buy new pails.

In the same boat! But I have 2 more pieces that will have to wait till I get back. Trying to knock at least one out now. Raked with the 400 this morning. Hope to roll it up this afternoon.

Broadcast some nitrogen on the corn with the 300. Weather guesser says its supposed to rain tonight into tomorrow. Sure hope so. Here's a couple shots of the corn from yesterday:

It's up to the axles on the 300 and probably too big to be putting the urea on, but I had it so figured why not. That second section is a little bit uneven, but I'm hoping it'll catch up.

Got it going again today. Got all the auxiliary coolers and such installed today. Runs good. Ran it on the bush hog a bit to heat it up and purge air from the cooling system. Stopping on my way to work tomorrow to check coolant level and make sure nothing leaked after sitting

Finally started on soybeans tonight.  Still some places too muddy to plant,  but this field is hilltop and planted good.  Planter ran good and I finished 2/3 of this field.  Used 9 bags of seed and 35 gallons of fertilizer.  1206 has a slight flutter.  Might be time to service the fuel filters.  Been 3 years now?

Nice rig! Can I ask about the hood ornament? I thought I noticed same setup on another tractor in your earlier planting photos?
