sandhiller
I really like the LED headlights I put on the Pete but wondered what they would be like in freezing fog or wet sticky snow. The other night I found out, not good. So I have been looking around for some halogen (create heat to melt lens) for the grill guard. For those that know lights, what do you think of these or what do you use? These are about 80 bucks for a pair from Summit https://www.summitracing.com/parts/HLA-005750512
Gearclash
I would think that yellow tint would be a help for fog lights. One of the reasons I resist switching my tractors over to LED is the tendency for the LED wavelength to make more “glare” on dust, and cutting the visibility through the dust. I would have to think fog lights would suffer from the same problem.

Mainly need the bulb to make heat to keep the lenses melted off. I saw a chart one time that measured lights in Kelvins? and told which ones were better for fog, etc.

Bassturd🤬 Yeah, I ain't a kool kid, just want to see in the fog.......................... I drive the truck mostly at night and nothing pizzes me off more than the super bright lights of today and people that will not dim early enough. These will be aimed hopefully so they do not cause problems for oncoming drivers. 2

Takes a real genius to want to blind someone he's getting ready to meet on a two lane.

We have grote 4656 replacements in a T800 that I’m pretty sure are heated. I don’t removed them being 800 a set. Originally we were buying truck lite LEDs and they were not heated. Some of these are probably 5-6 years old by now .

He kept the old school halogen lights on our plow trucks at work because of ice and snow. Both the plows and the spreader lights. A lot cheaper to replace and they still get the job done for us.
1965Dennis
With most of the newer cars having LED headlights, I started thinking about the icing issues. I wonder if they have a problem like this. I recently bought a 2016 3/4 ton and it has LED lights in just about every socket. I have not taken it out in the snow and icing conditions yet. Trying to wait until the salt or brine season is over.

They take too long to dim and flick back too early, so those bright strobe in the eyes effect when modern cars go by and flick back too soon, I think is auto dim. Doesn’t help you see better or make the situation less worse, just another part of driving being taken away by too much tech in the cockpit.

I wondered if they were like the ones on the back window
jeeper61
That's is what I have on my Silverado they put out plenty of light can't say I've run them in snow and ice at night Based on the light output they should melt off
jeeper61
This one is a clear lens fog pattern They tend to work better in the fog with the lower wider pattern https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hla-005750971

hardtail
Have to agree the modern factory lighting has exceeded comfortable brightness, unfortunately we live in a me world and regulators that are focused on all the wrong things

Thought the yellow would be better. Only plan on using them in fog and snow. 2 hours ago, vtfireman85 said: Something i saw in a parking lot recently had little lines in the headlights. Must be a long time, if they are in a 4 runner. Toyota is always 10-15 years behind the curve on those, mostly do to target audience I believe. 1

The driving light has a much taller beam I generally have to turn them off for on coming traffic on a two lane road IMO the Amber is not that much better The fog beam you will be able to leave on
AKwelder
They run the clear ones on trucks at work, they seem to be a very good quality for the price light that does the job. I plan on putting some on my truck at some point

Hasn't really affected the brightness too much but I'm sure it would be more noticeable on a vehicle
Dave Downs
GM had auto dimming as an option on Oldsmobile, Buick and Cadillac in the 1950’s - I think it was called the ‘Autronic Eye’…..didn’t work to well.
