driver444
Is there any obvious way to tell if I have a Pesco or Thompson hydraulic pump on my ‘57 350u? I have to rebuild it because it’s pushing Hy-Tran into my crankcase, but they both look so similar. I know I can pull the pump and get the number, but I’ll have to move the tractor to do the job, so I don’t want to do that until I have the parts. Any help appreciated. I have the following numbers stamped on the outside of the pump, but they don’t coincide with anything that I can find. 3A2807 0510135 P2
DWV
Shape of housing is a pesco, Unless a aftermarket.
driver444
Thank you! No, it’s the one that came on it in 1957. Never changed. so my next question is where to get a re-seal/gasket kit. The only ones I’ve found are for the Thompson pumps. thanks again

These pumps were never meant to be serviced so I doubt if the dealers ever officially carried parts.

Old IH number was 356887R91. Have some old notes that I didn't jot down clear enough at this date to be sure of. Looks like I used a national 471570 seal for that number. Think the original national number on 356887R91 was 450680. Some pumps had a serial break on seals. If you have two sizes front and back the other seal would be 363781R91. Same seal used in thompson at drive end. Have down a CR 8842 worked for it. Good hydraulic shop can furnish O rings. Seals and O rings are about all you can do. If pump internals are worn enough to let pump pressure get to seals they won't help. Maybe worth a try if in since new. IH used to sell a kit if housing was still okay but dropped years ago. mikem
If you get desperate I could look and see what my parts 350 has for a pump. Mike
driver444
Great info, thank you all. This is a very low hour tractor (around 500hrs) and the hydraulics are still very strong. I'm thinking I can get away with maybe just changing the shaft seals and I can make a gasket for the front cover and distributor. If I came across a Thomson pump that wasn't internally shot/worn, at a reasonable price, are the dimensions the same? meaning would I still be able to use the 2 original hard-lines from the reservoir to the pump? That could be an option. And thanks for the part numbers DWV!
