The first tractor my wife and I ever drove. Been on the farm since the early 70s. It was used to cut hay, rake hay, grind feed, haul hay and spread manure among other things through the years. Now it just does odd jobs. As far as we know it has the original clutch and t/a but overhauled in the 90s. My dad says the M wouldn't pull down as easily on the feed mill so they didn't use it for that much. It has been a very dependable tractor

Gas 221.  Diesel 236 from factory.

my 460 high utility. I drove this tractor about 1962 or 3, I was about 13 years old and it was first 6 cylinder AND power steering tractor that I ever drove. Dad had just 4 cylinder/Armstrong power steering tractors. I tried to buy it for years, finally original family owner sold it to me in 2020. Had to rebuild the engine, rewire it and change some wheels and fenders around.

A little footnote: See the outside hydraulic lever by the steering wheel?? When the tractor was fairly new and hooked to the manure spreader one winter, my Uncle Harold (their employee) backed the rig into the barn and went to jump off, but his heavy coat caught on the lever and there he hung, yelling for help. Lever snapped when they tried to straighten it, so the pipe was added to the stub. I'll leave it that way.

We had a 460 Hi-Utility as well. Grandpa got rear ended on the road Halloween night of 1980. The crash split the rear casting in half and when the tractor was thrown into the ditch, the Freeman 4000 loader kept it from rolling over on him. The insurance paid the implement to repair it. Handful of years ago I was at the local scrap yard. The implement was cleaning the warehouse and all the twisted sheet metal from our 460 was in the pile complete with the yellow paint scars from the loader . I filled the back of the pickup with parts and paid by the pound on my way out. $7 bought back our tins and a bunch more. It serves as garage art now.

A late friend of mine bought this 460U LP with plans to restore it but he passed away before that happened. lt came from a old cotton gin and was used to move cotton trailers around, the reason for the wood board push bar. He also got the small John Deere in the background as part of a package deal. His widow offered to sell it to me but l just didn't have the funds at the time.

one more picture I took when the parts 460U was headed back to skid row. Shows the difference between the front spindles on the Utility and High Utility models.

Here's my '62 model 460 Diesel, I've owned it since 1996. It gets used mostly on augers.
