TroyDairy Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Well.. Cpl weeks ago i was revved up about my stupid turn signal being out and only way to replace is 1400 gm unit or chinka 400 buck unit. I wasnt gonna fix it and just gonna live with it for now. Went over to my custom chopper guys place since he has near twin truck in white. So the blinker lights only flash and never glow as running lights. Honestly wasnt sure since never stood in front of truck. Seen a few meet me on freeway the otherday and notice the light i thought was out isnt. But the blinker still is stuck on. So park next to his and we flip on lights to confirm. Yep thank Lord above i didnt buy new lights! But as we are looking and talking bout trucks etc i go to show him the stuck on flasher. Works. Wth? Flip on lights, now stuck on. But rear is still flashing fine. It needed a new def tank perhaps the tech pinched a wire? As we opine the issue we finally step back and see that ALL the cool lights are flashing when the blinker is on left. Why? Ground? Pinched wire? Wait a sec...my left mirror has a blinker and running light. Hasnt worked for months. Now, it does AND the other lights are not working right. We feel smart now and think the led mirror light, with moisture in it, is shorting. Go home pop mirror all apart to unhook the light and test. Last thing in the over complex mirror is this light/plug. Touch the plug and 2 of 3 pins and male part of plug fall out of the heavily corroded female plug. Test and yep everything works fine now but that mirror light. So if i decide to fix it, another $100 bucks and need new plug part. Moral of the story. Spend more time confirming the cause before spending money. And ask for a 2nd opinion! Man i would of been ticked if i bought new lights! 4 1 Quote

Seems to be.Has lots of power/no smoke.Ran my rotary moco with last summer like it wasn't there.Stock radiator seems to be adequate as well but this tractor won't see any heavy tillage work. Quote

farmallcubkid Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Replaced the starter in my 7.3 today. I don't have any pictures because I kind of just cussed the whole time.😁 Them things can be a pain to get off, that top bolt is something else to get out. I spent 75 percent of 2 hours fighting that bolt but it spins it over way faster now though. That bolt somehow broke off and worked its way out of the starter and is one of the reasons I replaced It. It did not make it all the way out though. 2 Quote
DT Fan Posted January 24 Posted January 24 756 shifters, wish I had more new parts in stock. It started out innocently enough, took the hood off the diesel to have a look at the fuel sending unit. Still scratching my head on that front. Got to looking at the shifter, nut missing on the range shifter! Wow, how did that work as good as it did? Installed a nut, tightened things up a bit, good. Noticed the spring clip is broken, hmm, think I have some. Did, bought for the 1066 years ago, installed them. Things getting better. Wondering about the gas tractor, let's have a look. Yup, spring clips broken here too. Did some shimming and lubricating, improved things but still room to improve. Anyway, need more parts..... DT Fan Posted January 26 Posted January 26 A muffler and a battery charger???? Didn't see that coming but that's what happened. The muffler came from Uncle Craig, had crappy paint. Stripping it and will paint with VHT black. The charger I've had for years, gauge got broken when it fell off a tire. Still works fine, just no idea how well charged things were. Bought another at that auction just before turkey day. Well, it don't work. So, going to scrap. Tearing it apart, hmmm, wonder if that gauge would fit that other charger??? Needed a little massaging of the hole but now in there and works just fine. Going to change the leads tomorrow. Didn't pay much for the donor and it's making a good one better. 8 Quote

Got the backhoe started and cleaned off the driveway and pushed a path out to the brush pile, to get it burning. I cheated and scraped the sidewalk off with the backhoe. DT Fan Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Got that charger finished up yesterday, put the leads off the junker on it too. Works good. And, you can tell the state of charge again. Going to be a while on the muffler, need warm weather to paint. It's too big to be doing that in the shop. Quote

pms1961 Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Working on this Allis Chalmers 185 I bought non running.Had fuel system issues but now runs and operates really good.Moving on to the front axle now,as pictures show loader was used hard/misused.Previous owner did a repair on the left axle.Right knee completely broken all the the way around. Still need to get the work lights going,drain/refill trans and hydraulic system.Replace rear rubber,sandblast/paint the wheels.Would like to put a canopy on the rops as well. 8 Quote

It's an example of why I think it's a good idea to have a separate industrial for serious loader work; they're really built for it and relatively inexpensive for one retired from full time work but still quite serviceable for farm work. Shuttle shift or hydro with fwd/rev pedals are good for material handling. Quote

Agree,that's why I have this tractor.Ford Industrial 545C.4x4,fwd/rev shuttle,8 speed trans,independent pto,3point hitch.Full set of inside and outside weights on the rear.Loader will easily lift 5k. 6 Quote
