midnightman Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Late 40’s Mercury truck cab rust repair. Cab was 99% completely rust free except where the front of the box was pushed against the cab. There must have been quite a bunch of crap in between for a lot of years to rust that many holes in the back wall. 8 Quote
MT Matt Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Working on filling the truck with goodies to take back home to Montana. I’ve hit a place in Nebraska for the wheel weights for the JD 435. Stopped in western Iowa at a place I did last year. Nice young guy, I picked over his lot of Farmalls. Got a propane manifold for the Super M. Brake bands for the M. New style hubs for the Super M to get rid of the clamps. Muffler and Mercury rain flapper. Mud scrapper, I guess I’ll paint it and put that on the H just to say I have one. Few other small things. Put it in a tote in the front of the truck for the trip. A buddy in Minnesota found a few toys for me to take home. Picked up a tote of ice fishing decoys, wooden ducks and four metal tackle boxes of old lures in Albert Lee, Mn yesterday. I wanted the ice decoys for my shop collection but got much more in the deal. This is an old Paw Paw frog maybe from the 1940s. Some neat stuff that their grandpa had. We are going to pick up a set of wheel weights for my W-6 this afternoon north of Rochester. The guy from Iowa just found a Charlynn power steering setup yesterday so I’ll grab that on the way home next month. He also has a plow colter for my #70 plow. Hope I can get it all to fit. 😂 11 Quote

poor farmer/logger Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Well after some extensive structural testing it seems to hold up so figured I better splash some paint on it lol. Sand blasted, primed and painted. Ran out of paint though so not quite 100% done. Pretty close though. Paint matched it to the case skid steer. Was going to match the yellow but it was over 40 bucks for just a spray bomb. 10 Quote

Installed the crankshaft in the SBF after sealing up the galley with pipe plugs and a -10 straight thread up front. Had to order that plug special, after figuring it is different then npt. Still do plasigauge dry, just to confirm there is oil clearance. 9 Quote
cm228 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 The shops been busy since Christmas. Had the Farmall 230 from the tree farm in the shop for repairs. Starter solenoid went bad. Had one rear tire leaking calcium and the other rear was showing signs of a previous leak. Dad and brother got the tires off and wheels repaired and painted. Took them to a ag tire shop to get them put back on as they are old and stiff. Fixed another minor hydraulic leak and sent that tractor back. Then brought in one of the small Kubota tractors for mowing in between the tree rows in the shop for a leak at the front axle. Found a bad seal and oring at the axle pivot. After those repairs dad brought in one of our 2 new idea political promise spreaders. The side boards are shot, they were the original ones yet so I guess it was time. We got one side done today. Hopefully we’ll get the other side done next weekend. 8 Quote
Bill in Winnipeg Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Hi all, this is what I've been working on the last few weeks - last winter I picked up a 1947 Farmall B in an auction in Minnesota. Thought it was seized - turned out it had 2 stuck valves and a bent pushrod. She's running great now, so I'll probably start prettying it up this spring. Mower deck works and I'm looking forward to cutting grass in style this year! She's a great addition to the herd - which includes a 1940 Farmall H, 1943 McCormick WD6, 1953 McCormick W6, 1940 AC B, and 2 Ford 8N's (somewhere around 48-49). Next up for fixing is my Farmall M I picked up last fall- but it looks like a basket case, no spark plugs in the block for who knows how long so we'll see what sort of fun that is. Hopefully the block is ok. 7 Quote
DT Fan Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Pretty 756 centric around here lately. Got the gas running, got the platform re-enforced on the diesel and put a tube in the tire that keeps going down. Don't get that one, that rim was near perfect. The other one, that stays up just fine had some pitting. Also removed some broken bolts on each, don't see any more, knock on wood! Supposed to warm up tomorrow, if it does the gas is going for a drive. Everything good after that I'll put anti-freeze in and start putting sheetmetal on. Once I get done screwing around with this eggplant lasagna, thinking the block heater and all the related nastiness is coming off the diesel. Need to work on the temperature sending unit too. 3 Quote

The worst thing is, I bought a used aftermarket cab for my 2355 a number of years ago, but it's been so mild I got lazy and it's still sitting on the hay wagon where I unloaded it. This much snow and 10 degree weather will be a good reminder. Quote
