2+2love
On a 5488 mfwd Is number 31 in the diagram the only thing that prevents the sun shaft from hitting the bearing retaining bolts? I'm putting it back together and something doesn't look right. But I think I'm putting it back together just as the parts book shows. I installed new bearings, seals and set the bearing preload. DirtBoyz07
The book is the exact drawing of the original setup so it should be correct . The Magnum has the same setup and there service manuals are very good , if you want I can look it up and post a picture . Danny
2+2love
I just want it to be right and absolutely don't want the sun shaft to ever hit the bearing retaining bolts.
hippy5488
the circlip on the sunshaft locks it into the u joint knuckle. the axle shaft has a pressed on brg retainer that holds brg and flange on shaft. that locates cv joint assy. then there is a thrust washer between outer housing and end of sun shaft. 2+2love
It's all back together I have everything just the way the parts book shows. The best thing is the other side is not showing any sings of wear. So it was only one side that needed repair. Thank you to everyone that has helped me.
