Should just have to plug in both senders. There should be a jumper wire plugged into the lower wire harness. Unplug that, plug in lower sender.

Your 3pt arms may interfere with a 1086 tank. But I cannot conform that.

I was wondering if the wiring was there, thanks!

THe 986 arms and tank probably were like - $0.50 cheaper than the 1086.  Which when you are building 10000 of something is a significant factor.    The molding & casting companies were likely forced to eat the cost of the different molds if they wanted to keep the business.

And thus IH could say that the 1086 had a heavier 3pt and a larger fuel tank then the 986

They were lighter and maybe cheaper. However if you consider the cost of inventoring 4 parts instead of two I doubt it would pencil out.

Don't the 3088-3688 use the same arms and tank as the 786-986?

I'm pretty sure IH did most of their own casting back then.

GM quit putting radiator petcocks in their pickups in 1973.

It saved them $0.25 per vehicle.

That adds up when you are cranking out tens of thousands of vehicles over time.

But they got so much grief from the mechanics and owners, they put them back in again.

They used to listen to the customers/mechanics in that period of time.
