BIGRED806
Howdy, getting ready to tackle a long time coming project. I have the 1967 806 split and engine parts are back from the machine shop. Head is completely rebuilt, block is bored .030 over, crank is polished to standard size. Now to put her back together, just looking for any pointers or previous experience that may help me avoid costly time consuming re work. I still need to order my rebuild kit, was wondering what company everyone has had the best luck with for rebuild kits (tractor joe, jen sales, etc....)??? Would you guys recommend new lifters, push rods or stick with original, didn't have any issues with them. Appreciate any input, thanks. supermechanic
If you had the block bored before you you purchased pistons, you already have a big headache. usually bore is matched to individual piston size. perhaps machinist left enough material inside bore to hone each cylinder to size. whatever you do, do not install the piston rings as they are furnished, end gap must be set for each one (oil rings, not so much). keep us informed.
BIGRED806
Its bored .030 over and I'm going to order .030 over pistons, I don't see a problem with that. No one is going to bore a motor specific to each pistons exact measured size.

Machine shop always requested pistons and would come back marked to which bore they were fitted. Could also request specific clearance.
snoshoe
With the deed done. You can check each piston in each hole and move them around to get the most even fit.

One way out of this would be to go back to your machinist and order the kit through him. Then if stuff starts not fitting then it is HIS problem, since he bored it. Sure he’s going to mark the stuff up, but what price your sanity? Regarding choosing parts, if you go that route, not a lot of variety out there. If you were to go to CNH “genuine” parts, they likely dumped the parts out of Reliance boxes and re-boxed them in CNH containers.
