Lazy WP
Some of us travel out of the areas where we know where the good food is. I think you should all share some of your favorite places to eat. Last night I stopped in the metro area of Willis Nebraska, about 15 miles west of Dakota City Nebraska. Place looks like a dump, but WOWSERS. 16 oz ribeye steak for $16.75! Probably the best steak I have had at a restaurant!! 3

That’s why I learned how to make my own! Had some real good chicken fried steak in Fort Worth when I was there and that gave me the desire to learn. Last time I googled that restaurant it was closed up though.
1256pickett
What’s that country song from the 90s that had a line about judging a restaurant by the sign? There is some truth to it. I have had some good luck based off that. Only line of it I can remember well enough to quote is “she talks to the truckers with her lights” Something like mama knows the highway by heart? EquipmentJunkie
I used to travel a lot. When I was in a new town, I would use my trusted Parking Lot Barometer method. The restaurant parking lot with the most police cars and pickup trucks got my business. I don't think that I ever had a bad meal using that method.

Lazy WP
We did a road trip years ago and only ate at salebarns. I am still a fan of them, but the last 2 I have eaten at were Mexican restaurants. Good Tex-Mex, made by hispanics but it wasn’t the same as the old salebarn cafe food. Along with that thought, if you are ever in Brush Colorado, stop at the salebarn that is down the hill. Excellent food and wait staff that can keep truckers in line. Finney
In my former life traveling all over the eastern US for work when in a new area/town I would get out early and look for where the farmers and construction workers were eating. Always found good food.

Sledgehammer
Just south of I64 about 3 miles in Southern Indiana is the Nisbet Inn. No semi parking but one of my favorites. known for Rib Gumbo among other things. German history in the area has some influence on the menu to this day. https://publichistory.iupui.edu/items/show/479 Another good one if in the St Louis area is Hodaks. https://www.hodaks.com

Serving shrimp in a paper lined tray. Around 6 bucks for a huge pile of shrimp and fries
