Diesel fuel in my engine oil on hydro 100 farmall international

I have a hydro 100. Tractor has 7000 hours, i was told when i bought it, that it has a engine out of a combine that had 3500 hours on it. I left the tractor sit all summer, came back to start it and I saw diesel in the engine oil! I wrenched on the fan pulley to see if the engine would turn and it seemed fine as best as I could tell. I changed the oil. Tractor will not start because the starter turns over hard. I have 13 volts at the starter. Is my fuel pump leaking or my injectors? Do i need to drain diesel from a cylinder? If i get it started, can i run it as long as i keep the oil fresh?

Im near scottsbluff nebraska, and torrington wyoming. Do you know any mechanics i could call to help out around here?

Removing the flywheel timing cover on the bell housing and using a bar on the ring gear, would be the preferred method of turning an engine by hand.  You won’t have fuel pooled in the cylinders, so turning with the starter is fine once you get the starter cranking.  Quality jumper cables or booster pack is worth a shot.

I bought a 1066 a year ago with the same issue. Was the seal on the shaft. Of course when I took it to the pump shop, they said everything is shot. Needs rebuilt. That’s what they always say in my opinion. $1500 later, no fuel in the oil. It really isn’t that hard to take the pump off yourself. A few injector lines, a few fuel lines, and the mounting bolts. Timing it is pretty easy as well. I agree that you won’t have fuel in the cylinders hydro-locking your engine. You must have starter or battery cable issues.

If you can turn the engine over 2 full revolutions through the fan, then you do not have a problem with fuel in a cylinder. You would NOT be able to turn the engine over that easily by hand.

Combined with the other thread you started, where you put in new batteries, cleaned all the contacts, etc., you have a bad starter.

The injection pump needs to be looked at, at the very least. Don't turn a $1500 repair into a $10,000 repair.

You could in theory change the engine oil and run the tractor for a short amount of time. Depends on how bad the leak is. I know I wouldn’t take a chance with fuel dilution in the engine oil. I’d be afraid of finding out the hard way where that fine line is where your engine oil looses too much lubricating properties. My 1066 that did that was not a fast leak, but I ended having 3 gal extra oil in the crankcase one day. I called it quits and took off the pump after that.

Had a braided ground strap on a 706 that was bad.  We had cleaned all the connections,  had the starter rebuilt and tried a different battery.  No improvement.   Changed out the ground strap and the tractor started without issue.

I keep a new CNH ground  strap here. I have original ones that are 50 years old and then other ones that live and work in the same conditions but didn’t hold up very well at all.  Anybody have a recommendation for a brand of  one of those battery safety disconnect switches that you would put in line with the ground strap?

Caterpillar part#  7N-0718

Construction company I worked for installed them on everything.
