One Hot IH Set-Up In The Mid-1960’s

Grandpa sent me this the other day. This is his great uncle Orville with his Super M-TA Propane and model 46 IH baler during one of the summers between 1963-1965. That was when grandpa helped on the farm with the hay. He got this from his cousin (Orville’s daughter) a few weeks ago. This is north of Oklahoma City around Guthrie. Grandpa grew up in a town between the two named Edmond which is where my grandpa (and dad) were born. We are going back there this weekend for great uncles funeral (grandpas brother).

Anyways, thought you all would appreciate this. I really thought it was neat.

Thank you. It has been 10 1/2 years since we have been back there so it will be nice to see family I haven’t seen since I was little. Since I’m in the Texas Panhandle for college I haven’t seen my parents and sister in two months. They came down to get me tonight, so it is good to see them.

Funerals are bittersweet. The memories and folks you haven't seen in a while. Tempered with the loss of a loved one.

Edmond is now a suburb of Oklahoma City. A friend lives there.

Dad had a Farmall 300 LP and pulled a IH 56 Wire with it. Had the narrow front w/o power steering. along about 64 he had power steering put on it and it was sure a lot nicer driving. I ran it a lot helping him bale alfalfa at night

We were still putting up loose hay into stacks with a W6 and farmhand, probably didn't progress to baling until the early 70's, sorry for your loss, their timespan in history will have provided the greatest change

Thank you all for the kind words. What a great forum. Funeral was a very nice tribute. He was a strong Christian, became a fire fighter in 1972 and became chief in 1993. There had to be a hundred firefighters there. It was great to see extended family members again. Learned history as well. 

Saw headstones of relatives, visited in Edmond, where my Farmall Cub was sold new on June 11th, 1948, and got a print of this picture. This is also Orvale (I think that’s the correct spelling) in an earlier photo with a Super M LP and 7ft IH sickle mower. Found out to the son of Orvale still has the Super M-TA LP.
