Persistent cough

Just got over strep throat, now have a persistent cough that rears it’s ugly self when I talk. Tried all kinds of cough drops, hot tea, hot water, coffee, etc.

By the end of the day, I am completely wore out.

never been a smoker, every time I get a cold, this cough will linger for 2-3 weeks.

Call your family doctor, for an appointment.  Work with them toward a solution.  We pay for their education, now YOU should get a benefit from your tax dollar.

Good luck with your health issues, I just base mine on my old age.

My mother has that currently, also not a smoker. I have had similar a few times, Dr gave me a lidocaine gargle that helped the cough but was revolting.

I probably wouldn't follow this advice, but it's probably a good idea to see a Dr. 5 years ago I was diagnosed with a leaking heart valve that didn't bother me so I ignored it until 3 weeks ago I woke up with severe chest pain from A-fib. 3 1/2 days in the horse pistol to get the A-fib under control, next Tuesday they're going to chop me open to repair it. It may have been easier and smarter to get it fixed when it showed up in 2017, who knows.

This latest round of Covid it is one of the side effects, my sister had a cough for 2 months after and my wife is going on a month.

I've had a nagging cough for years. Sinus issues. Went to a sinus specialist and he said I had a "deviated septum."  Went through with the surgery and worse than before. Can't hardly breathe through the right side of my nose and constant drainage. Going on maybe 15 years now. I just live with it.

I've had a cough from the ccp virus for almost a year now. Deep, hacking, and always something comes out....

And so it goes-----

Same here. Got my nose fixed and now drainage  all goes down my throat. Stomach then feels like i have flu if I dont eat something every few hours.  If I dont start taking medicine as soon as I feel it I get bronchitis. Now that is a freakin cough. One that hangs out about 3 months. Seems to be worse in fall. Its dry here and dusty. Crop dust just adds to it. Bean dust kills me but I'm like you I live with it.

A couple big shots of Whiskey help break a cough for me.

For medicinal purposes only.

Thats my go to..... I get a cold every year usually in spring that turns into bronchitis. Always take 2 to 3 weeks to get rid of. lots of coughing and phlegm, not much you can do other than try cough suppressants and Ace's remedy 😵. The one thing to be careful of is that it does not turn into pneumonia.

^^^ I was just at my 6 month recurrent and the MED/CPR/AED instructor is a long Covid victim. He's a former flight nurse and an excellent instructor. He's on his third, maybe forth case of pneumonia. It starts as a cough and soon he's in for a chest Xray. He calls it the gift that keeps on giving.

Anyway, his advice is to have any persistent cough investigated as pneumonia, as TomH indicates, IS dangerous.

Dont know if you have high blood pressure but some blood pressure medications can have a side effect and cause a cough . ACE Inhibitors are a common one that can cause this . They are medications that end in " pril " such as Lisinopril , Captopril  ect ...

I had (and still have) a persistent cough that started about 10 years ago.  The first medication was for acid reflux as that often causes a cough.  No improvement.  Then to a specialist to check lung function, etc.  The final diagnosis to my surprise was the return of childhood asthma.

Now take a steroid inhaler (not the emergency one) twice a day.
I bicycle for exercise, and as I get into shape in the spring, I have been able to reduce the inhaler to once a day with my doctor’s approval.  Hard exercise helps keep the pipes blown out.

Bottom line, get it checked out.
